Daily I worry about Mardi, her limited mobility. I granted her a handicapped placard.
I am officially revoking it! The stinker is digging like a mole. Two small spots under the overhand of the garden shed have always been a problem. Finally decided to border the small areas with brick and put in hostas of which I have a ton. It's not easy work, digging out, setting the bricks, etc. Did the initial phase and took a break. Mardi took it upon herself to dig out all the topsoil and fling it all over the yard. OK, put more in and plant the hostas and she does not bother it. What does she do, digs a big hole in front on the areas. Yelled at her and all she did was look up and smile.
DH even made her a dedicated dig area; she never used it. Guess I should be glad she has the spirit and energy to even think of being the little stinker she is. Gotta love her!

Oh, you know she was just helping.
Our little helpers...
Something to watch for, though...our male Akita did some digging one day while we were at work. I didn't find holes until after our scare with him upon arriving home...he couldn't walk. He didn't even want to get up from lying down. I "had" to call a neighbor to help me get him to the vet (Bob wasn't going to be home till really late), at which point he raised himself up in glee...excitement over seeing Ted far outweighed his pain and I guess he didn't want to be embarrassed by being picked up by my strong neighbor.
The vet said he'd obviously strained something while out in the yard...and to go look for holes. Bingo!
It's good the old girl has some spunk!

Mardi.
Poop in the hole always worked for me. They dug a hole some place else but once they decided on a spot I didn't care about I let them go to it.
We call it the "senior entitlement" with Gracie. With her it's "I'll come when I'm ready" no matter how many times we call her. Oh she can hear quite well, she just takes her time sniffing all the good smells outside in the yard and when you go get her she just smiles and prances in like the queen she is.

Yeah, the seniors do get a pass on things like this, they've earned it.
Sometimes it just takes the proper motivation for them to act all puppy-fied! Mom knows your tricks now, Mardi!
Mardi still having fun after all these years...
I agree, seniors get a pass! Emma gets away with things Maxx would never dream of doing. Watching the big smile on her face when she knows she is doing something "naughty" makes me smile. Some may say I am wrong to let her rule our house but she is the queen and I don't care, lol!
