Bye Iphone 6 .......... no thanks to you Charlie

Went to beach this past Thursday. I will usually keep the long leash on Charlie for at least 20 minutes when we first get there, he is outta of his mind with excitement.

We will play fetch and he will generally splash in the water on shore, not swim

Well an owner and her dog were swimming together far, I mean far from shore - she had a ball and Charlie followed so I followed.
Finally got his attention and held on to his harness.

I was terrified and the look on his face was pure joy - to be swimming with the waves.

When we got back to shore, I realized, lost the long leash, so we had a long walk back to our spot as I held on to his harness.

Opened my purse and there was my phone, floating in my purse.

(lastly I was screaming in panic to the lady, "can you please grab his harness so he doesn't go farther, she yelled back, its okay he can swim") If I hadn't lost my leash, I was ready to give her a piece of my mind.

He knew he was in trouble, but doesn't know why:

Answer: lifeproof cases. They are not chew proof, but they sure proof the phone for times like that!

You may wish to try the ole dry out your phone in uncooked white rice; do not take it out for at least 24 hours. It worked for a 1st gen ipod touch. Of course, I left it in for days! That is hard with a phone that you need now!

Glad you had a good time, Charlie.

Just really glad you managed to keep hold of Charlie. I would have totally given that person a piece of my mind.

That really stinks. If you have Apple Care, they will replace the phone for $79.

Sorry about your iPhone. That's a serious bummer. Something happened to the screen on mine this summer and I was obsessed with trying to figure out how to fix it. I even had to use my iPhone 4 for a while... the horror! Don't you hate when your dog acts like he's never had a day of training in his life? Sam will throw me for a loop every once in a while just to keep me on my toes. The last time my in laws visited, the darn dog stole a whole sandwich off of the table. He just put his big old feet up on the table and gobbled it up before I could react. It was the talk in my house for days...

Yes they definitely keep us on our toes. Charlie was like a rebel that day, he heard nothing.

Sorry about your phone. I recently had to upgrade to an iPhone 6 because I dropped my 4 on the ground face down (just after changing the case from an otterbox...d'oh!!!!)

I probably wouldn't have worried so much about the dog though. When we lived in Mission Viejo, CA, I used to take Hudler to Laguna Beach during "dog hours" and he would fetch bumpers out of the ocean for about an hour. Get a life jacket for the dog if you are worried.

Now that he knows about it, Charlie will probably want to swim more so you should just be ready for it. Mine both swim in the ocean, Lark is especially intrepid jumping through breakers to swim out for a bumper. If there's something to swim out to bring back, it makes you feel less concerned that they'll just keep going out. I don't keep a lead on them when they swim because I don't want them getting tangled in it. I also don't throw the bumper if I think the waves are too rough but Lark just loves to go in anyway.

Sorry about your phone and whatever else was in your purse. The first time I saw Chase swimming I was ready to go "rescue" him at any moment. I thought he was going to swim across the sound or go so far I couldn't find him. It does annoy me when other people act like they know more about my dog than I do.

“Because of the dog's joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass? What would this world be like without dogs?”

Stealing a line from a friend on the board here, It's tough when they decide to go into "independent contractor" mode. They've got a plan and you weren't included in it.

I own a boat and have a new approach to bringing Cassie to the marina ... I keep a waterproof box in my boat bag. Keys, wallet, and phone go in the box before we do anything else. It's amazing that a dog can figure out the perfect time to yank on the leash to dislodge the keys from my hand and into the drink. After half an hour of dragging a magnet with no success, I had to call my brother and ask him to drive 20 minutes to my house, pick up the spare, and then drive 40 minutes to the boat. Not a great afternoon! Cassie couldn't understand my displeasure.
