Guess I've always been a city girl, so I didn't think about this being fawning season. Our neighborhood is adjacent to a large watershed area that is part of a local reservoir and there are a ton of deer that come through the neighborhood. A study done about 5 years ago said there are close to 95 deer per square mile in our county, so it's not like we don't see them. There is a deer population management program with bow hunters, etc. They take the meat to local food banks. There are a few areas of the county that allow public hunting, only during hunting season, but I'm too close to the city. I know deer will attack humans if they or their fawns are threatened, so I guess I'll be extra careful walking the dogs where I know deer hang out- sometimes I can hear them huffing out there in the dark when I walk by, even if I can't see them.
