DH grew up with poodles.

2002 - DH and I were about 2 years into our relationship, cohabitating in an apartment in our early to mid 20’s. We had recently gone tothe local Humane Society, and picked out an orange tiger cat we were interestedin, but asked our landlord and the response was “Absolutely Not”.A bit later in the year I got a call from mymother who was in possession of a female black lab pup.My mother had Multiple Sclerosis, and alreadyhad a cocker spaniel, so was in no position to keep the pup.So we went over to check it out, my DH fellin love at first sight with the 4 month old spunky pup wearing a red collarnamed “Ruby”.She had already been infour different homes by the time my mother took possession of her.So we had to ask the landlord yet again, dreading the response, but astonishing he said “yes, but provisionally”.Well, 13 years later, she is still with us.

2004 - when we were in our house and actuallydiscussing getting another dog (we knew we wanted a female black lab), we hadfound out who the breeders of Ruby were, which ironically was people we knew, and we reached out to them.We luckedout, they had one last litter.Andalong came Emmy, who is polar opposite of Ruby, personality and physically.

At about that time in our lives we decided that human kidswere not in our future, so our dogs are our kids.

Fast forward to today, we have 3 female black labs (Ruby,Emmy, & Keene). We just started aChristmas tree farm which is named (after our girls) Black Paws Farm.So from here on out, I think its black labsfor us.Not to mention I wear a lot ofblack clothing so it works out from a shedding/clothing situation.
I totally get what you are saying about the black clothing! Almost everything I have is black and what color of dog did I get? Yellow!!! What was I thinking?!?!!? I tell Pipey all the time when her sister gets here (she's gonna be a black lab) she is gonna become the red-headed step-child!!! Think she's shakin' in her boots? Yeah, me neither
