I'm in the "Go meet the Swissy!' camp. Sounds like a dream dog to me.

When we lost Bear, I wanted a Golden puppy so badly I ached. I also wanted a small breed dog as well. Agreed to foster a 6 year old Shih tzu for a friend with ZERO intention of keeping him. We ended up adopting him (or he adopted us) and couldn't be happier with the decision. Who knows, you may get there and nothing works. At least at that point you know. Good luck!

I would go with the Swissie. You'll have a much better idea about your next dog if you fall in love with the breed.

I would go with the Swissy as well. Puppies will always be available but it's not everyday you are offered the chance to adopt a well trained, well tempered adult from a great breeder.

    Back with an update:

my fiance, who has never had pets before and didn't know if he would like having a dog, came home from work last night and said that he wasn't ready for another dog, and I couldn't argue with the reason:

Said he loves Archie sooo much that he wants another year with just him before we add another.

So, I'm a little disappointed, but I'm sure the Swissy will find a great home, and we can love on Archie for another year until we bring him home a little ankle biter.

Thanks again for all your advice and encouragement!

I completely understand that decision. Daisy is my first dog and I love how close we are and I have wondered if I would even want to bring in another dog one day. I think might one day- but I want at least 2 or 3 more years with just Daisy.

So glad he spoke up. Funny how life presents our choices. First you thought you choice was to get a new puppy. Then it was a new puppy or a Swissy. Who knew the right choice would be none of the above.

That is a hard one but take the Swiss provided you meet and fall in love then you can go back for a puppy at a later date. This would follow all of your dreams.
