    Favorite Doggy Spy Cam??

So DH and I have talked about it and we think Teagan is ready to start have short periods of time out of crate when we're gone for about an hour or less (grocery store, short errands, etc.) she's 7 months which I know is still young and on the verge of insane on my part but I think as long as we make sure she's totally exhausted before hand we will have good luck with this......famous last words?!

so the point of my post is...I want to have an extra eye on her when we do leave, so we're looking for a wifi enabled camera we can mount to check from our smart phones when we aren't in the house. I know there are a few of these on the market today (Nest cam, pet cube) but wanted some opinions from current users. Looking for the best "bang for my buck"...nothing that will fall apart or freeze but also don't want to break the bank!

Here's a cute picture of Teags to entice you guys

Samsung has just come out with a lot of whole home solutions. A Camera is just one of them.

This is if you are looking at expanding in the future as well. Cause I will admit it is a little expensive, however it is geared towards growing the things in your home.

Start here Samsung SmartThings | Smart Home Automation Systems & Products

Then if you scroll down towards the bottom, there is a "create your smart home" link. You will see the monitor you pet option which was designed by a certain someone, to monitor a certain special pet, you know I can't name names or anything.

Then future add ons, which you can add later much cheaper, smoke detectors and water leak detectors. But more in the pet line, which there should be more pet packs added to this include the outlet, you know so you can remotely turn the fan on for your pet when you see them getting warm. Also there are a huge line of door locks, and door knobs that already work with this so you can remotely lock and unlock or assign unique codes to for one time use remotely. They have some cool features like detect your phone as you approach from walking the pooch and unlock automatically or open the garage door. However you have them set up.

I have seen the whole set up with camera and so on cheaper at Costco as well.

Edited to add this link, here is products for home including the door locks, and entranceways, speakers and intercoms, you can let the UPS man into the Garage remotely etc. There are a ton of better looking ones coming as well that all build off the initial hub.

We have Dropcams in our house that we got for the same reason. Thor had freedom by about ~8-9 months old based on this process - but he never was a very mischievous or chewy puppy.

Step 1 New puppy: Either supervised or crated 100% of the time.
Step 2 (5 months old): slept with us at night in our bedroom out of the crate, but he was never left home alone or unsupervised during the day.
Step 3 (6 months old): Installed dropcams and let him wander the camera covered space (living room, kitchen, and backyard out the doggy door) during the day while we were home. My husband and I both work from home so we would keep a screen open on our computers from our private offices with our dropcam feeds. 99% of the time it was just Thor snoozing, but when he'd wander or sniff we could watch. If he appeared to be getting into something he shouldn't, we could quickly react and redirect since we were just in the other room.
Step 4 (7 months old): Left him for short periods of time for nearby errands (shopping, gym, etc) keeping a close eye on the camera feed via mobile device. The best part of the dropcams is that they can alert you when they sense movement. They also have 2 way audio so if he was doing something we could speak to him. Again, he would just snooze on the couch 99% if the time.
Step 5 (8+ months): Longer periods of time, still regular checkins via the camera.

To be honest we didn't need that much supervision - we had no problems exposing him to more and more freedom. We didn't move on to the next step until he had proven himself at the previous step, but it never took long. He went from 100% crated to 100% freedom in 3 months. I don't think we would have moved that fast or been as successful without the help of the Dropcams.

Another thing to mention is that we still crate him from time to time just to keep him used to it. We still sometimes use it when we travel.

Bubba is allowed access to the downstairs living room while I'm at work. I started giving him access when he was around 7 months. I put away anything he might chew on, and he has a dog walker that comes during the day so he's usually pretty tired. The only times there have been issues are when we've accidentally left a roll of paper towels out (always his arch nemesis), or when his dog walker was on vacation and he got a little too bored.

In terms of bang for your buck, we use a free option! Presence is an app that you can install on any iOS device, and allows you to stream from any iOS device. So I have the app installed on my phone as the main "viewing" device (you can also view from a web UI), and I have an old iphone and my ipad set up as the two cameras. It takes 30 second videos whenever there is movement and sends you an email so you can view them. Considering it is 100% free and most people have some extra/old iOS devices laying around, I love it, and the quality is pretty good!

I have Dropcams at my house but my 2 are so rarely left alone they aren't really necessary anymore. And both are so good I really can not complain! (*knock wood*)

I tried something like that (forget the name of it) and could never get it to work on my old Android phone although it was supposed to be compatible. Worth trying though, you don't have to worry about returning Free.
