Giving the neighbors a show. Gross.

We had the growth on Fran's anus removed. This is quite possibly the most awkward recovery I have ever assisted with for a dog. For obvious reasons, there is a very high risk of infection just from normal everyday functions. This was cause for a lot of anxiety for me. I mean, can you imagine?

They gave me a watered down solution to flush the area with after she poops. But she just would not poop. I barely slept last night and nothing all day. I was terrified she was holding it and would soil her crate while I running an errand or something then sit in it.

Eventually I put her on lead and decided that we were just going to stay out there for as long as necessary until something came out. We went up and down the sidewalk over and over again with me holding this enormous bottle of betadine which looks a lot like blood. Finally, she pooped and it was the messiest poop I have ever seen come out of her. I was shocked. She is such a clean pooper. She walked around and spread it all over the sidewalk and sure enough there was a chunk of it on her butt. This all happened smack in front a neighbor's house. They have three kids, two of whom are young boys and everyone was home.

I straddled her backwards, bent over and flushed and flushed. The chunk fell off and it finally looked completely clean. Then I had to wipe her poop off the sidewalk.

But she was so happy and I was so relieved. It must have felt good. It certainly kills all of the bacteria on contact so maybe that was it.

That must have looked really strange though.

No stranger than pulling out poop with a long piece of grass attached to it....just took you more time.

Glad to hear it sounds like she's feeling better.

How many times have we done that. I doesn't manner what the neighbors think. They would do the same for their kids.

I am sure getting that out of her made her(and you) feel much better. That's what counts.

Keep getting better Fran and have many 'good' poops.

Lol, I am sure your neighbors will recover! We sure do some odd things for our dogs especially where non-dog people are concerned. Heck, it gives them something to talk about!

From some of the things you've said about some of your neighbours what looked strange to them was that you'd do that at all. They wouldn't have. In fact, they may have thought you were going to gather the crap up to leave it on their doorstep, light it on fire, ring the doorbell and run away. They only wondered why you weren't waiting for dark.

Or wait, it was dark? Time stamp says 1:24 am and I think we are in the same time zone.

You are a good doggy Mum. Clean Fran's bum.

It's what we do for our pets. No worse than cleaning up after a "blow out" diaper. If the kids asked, I would simply tell them she had surgery there and you had to make sure it was super clean after she went.

I'm sure Fran felt much better after pooping. She was probably holding it because it was uncomfortable to go. From now on should be better.

    You're one great furkid Mom.

Today she is bouncing off the walls. It's like she's three again. And with that cone . . . The backs of my legs are all bruised. I love it.
