It makes me sad all of the people that give away or sell pets when they have kids. I don't understand how anyone can do that or even think it's a good idea. I grew up with animals and will always have at least one in my home. Kudos to you for you zoo!

What a chump. People say all sorts of stupid things once kids are in the picture... I've found the Smile & Nod technique to be the most useful

We aren't the right family to ask about that...we brought home our puppy Eddy (now 15 months) just after I learned I was pregnant. It took some soul-searching, but we did it. Probably not the smartest thing in the world since we were also in the middle of a major renovation and move, and the puppy proved to be pretty destructive (chewing, like most puppies do when left unattended, LOL), but he's a sweetheart.

I'm really old, like before what most people these days consider "old school" and got some weird ways because of it but I think if you get rid of your animals, your kids won't love them. You don't get rid of the dog, you teach the kid and dog how to get along together. All my best memories as a young boy include my dog right there with me. He'd run along with me when I would take off on my bicycle.
Nonsense!! I think every kid should have animals.

It says something though about the person who says such things. Always good to know.

Congratulations on trying for a new addition!

Some people think when a new baby comes in, the animals must leave. Shame, but see many ads on craigslist with the same message, new baby, pup must go.

All you do when this subject is brought up, Smile and say thanks for your opinion. And walk away and do what you want.

I've read that babies who grow up with pets are healthier, the pets help them develop a strong immune system.

Not to mention the psychological benefits.

    Oh, and congrats!!
