South Dakota Black Hills Lab friendly fun?

So the week before dog scout camp this year is a big wood carving festival in Minnesota. Which I am planning on going to go to.

However before then since I would take a whole week off, I decided we might as well go farther and see some stuff I always wanted to see. Mount Rushmore and the Black Hills.

Well I just found out Mount Rushmore is not dog friendly. They basically can't leave the parking area. So I figured we could camp and hike at the Black Hills and then make a few hour trip one day to Mount Rushmore for a photo op and then back to the hills.

However, I am not finding many warm and welcoming pet friendly things to do or places to go. Anyone with any experience traveling with your lab out there in the South Dakota Black hills area? Things to do places to see?

You will be in my neck of the woods! In terms of friendly activities, most national parks won't let the pups out of parking areas I am not sure about hiking trails, etc near there, but I would guess they would be a good bet. I haven't ever been to that area with a dog. However, I know this is not where you are going, but there are places in MN that are very dog friendly. Tons of restaurants and breweries in the Twin cities are dog friendly, along with lots of hiking trails and parks. We love going up to the North Shore with Bacon. The superior hiking trails are amazing and dog friendly. I can talk to some relatives we have over in SD and get back to you, they have a labbie and should know some places to go!

ETA: I know the Crazy horse memorial is very dog friendly, so if you are interested you could do that!

OK, in some brief research I found that the Centennial Trail is Dog Friendly. Also, there is Bear Country USA which is dog friendly as well. Dog-Friendly Rapid City and the Black Hills/title>

You can also look at the Petrified Forests and The Underground Falls. Here is a full list I found. Mount Rushmore - Black Hills, South Dakota Pet-Friendly Hotels, Dog-Friendly Restaurants, Dog Parks and Travel Guide

Thanks, yeah let me know what your relative say. Then Crazy horse memorial is in the neighborhood of Mount Rushmore. So we could still swing by Mount Rushmore then go to Crazy Horse.

Minnesota, we will be more in the south west area, unfortunately only passing by the lake shore in our travels. The carving thing ends Saturday and Sunday we need to be in Middle Michigan. Towing an RV that's a 2 day trek.
