I am so glad that Gabe came home safe and sound.

It is so scary when they get away from you. Someone opened our gate years ago and Ginger got out, she has no recall what so ever and if she would have caught the scent of something she would have been off and running. Thankfully I did find her in the next door neighbors yard and got her back to me safely. When it happens you just have that ill feeling that lasts for hours.

    So scary and puke-worthy.

In her younger years, Kimber once took off after a deer. Of course it was the day I had put the Advantix on her and she didn't have her collar on. DH was home when it happened and after looking for her for 45 minutes, called me at work to come home and help search. I drove home sobbing. By the time I got there, she had turned up back in our yard. Much to her dismay, we both loved on her for a LONG time.

Glad he came home!!!! It's scary when something like this happens. I remember when Gauge was 6 months old it was about 3 am and I just got back with my husband from the ER. I let gauge out and ran in to help my husband into bed bc he couldn't walk and when I went out Gauge wasn't in the yard. I panicked and ran thru l the house and out the front door where I was greeted by a wiggly happy lab puppy. I could have killed him lol. I agree as much as you want to reprimand it's better to praise them when they come back.

Mike, so gald Gabe came back home safely and "some what" on his own. Something that you can try to make sure the slider doesn't open that far without you wanting it to is. In the track of the slider take a old wooded broom stick handle and cut it to size so you can only open the door a few inches to yell at those pesky deer.

Terrifying! And totally relatable. Yesterday, I "lost" my older dog, Betsy. She is a dachshund mix and she has inherited their tendency to "follow their nose". I lost her for a few minutes in a field full of tall grasses. She had followed a scent in there and been totally oblivious to my calls to her and then become scared or stuck or both. It wasn't until I heard her really quiet whimpering that I found her. Definitely a heart-stopping few minutes.

I am glad that Gabe made it back home safely, deer are beautiful but stories like this make me glad we don't have any nearby.
