Congrats! And hats off. I couldn't do it. Even though it is for a great cause, I couldn;t give up the pup. This is also why I don't foster

Good for you and good for us, since you will keep us up to date on your experience. I have met a few puppies while out and about but don't know a soul who has raised one. Already it sounds like too many rules for my OH to break.

That's awesome! Congratulations! I follow a couple of puppy raisers on instagram, they all seem to be students at the University of Kentucky so there must be a big program there. The puppies are obviously adorable and the raisers do such an amazing job! Bubba is such a failure compared to them haha.

I can't wait to hear stories! And I'm interested to see how you raise dogs with different sets of rules, or if your dogs are already on a stricter set of rules than mine is

Yes, I'm curious to see how this will go too, LOL! Archie is not allowed on the furniture and he is crate trained, so that's a start. He also doesn't particularly love tennis balls, thank goodness. He has a pretty solid leave it when it comes to food on the ground, but he definitely gets table scraps every day.

My daughter almost raised a Guide Dog (not for GDA though, we live too far away) for her Girl Scout Gold Award while she was a Junior and Senior in High School. She presented her plan to the unit council and they denied it, they said it "didn't have enough of a 'Community Service' component". They wanted her to add like 40 hours of visits to other GS troops, in addition to raising the dog, and she had a full course load of Advanced Placement and College Prep courses. If raising a Guide Dog isn't the ultimate Community Service, I don't know what is? She declined, and did something else for her Gold Award. :-)
Okay, that is insanity! Seriously, this is an enormous commitment, which, as you said, pretty much defines "community service." Bummed that your daughter didn't get to experience it.

That's awesome! Have fun, but be careful. My friend and her cousin, who are housemates, have raised like 60 between the two of them since highschool and they currently have six yellow Labs, half of which are "guide dog flukees" (one flunked because he drooled too much).

wow, a guide-dog puppy raiser. its hard to imagine a better calling - getting that lovely ball of fur off on the right paw to become someone's eyes, hands, ears, helpmate... i would be terrified that i'd "wreck" the puppy somehow, not bring out the best in it, and have it live up to its potential.
I've met a few around here, in basic puppy classes, and out and about. Be interesting to hear in depth how it goes!
