Archie and Quinn are getting a brother!

    Hi everyone!

I haven't been around very much lately, a few posts here and there. Archie and Quinn are all grown up and just lovely, happy labs that we adore

Things are going to change though - our baby is due at the end of September.

Both are well-trained, crate trained, know to go to their "place" and calm down well when asked, but they have never been around a baby so we are going to be very careful for a while.

Archie is more sensitive and knows something is up - he laid on top of a pile of baby clothes I wanted to put away and wouldn't move, and routinely gets himself stuck under the crib - silly boy. Quinn is happy and oblivious, typical lab that she is.

I'm just looking for any tips/tricks or things we should be doing now or do after baby arrives - any tidbits you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Congratulations! How exciting! My dogs have been pretty good around our grandbaby, who is now 16 months old. Chase is particularly calm, Lark gets pretty excited but calms down after a bit. We don't see them more than every few months so every visit is like starting over. They're never unsupervised. Here's Chase and the grandbaby from a recent visit.

Snowshoe recently posted something about a dogs and storks program. I didn't really look it over too much but maybe it'll give you some ideas.

All my Labs have been great with babies and little kids. I think they know what babies are, and they act accordingly.

Oh, I bet they'll be just perfect. Hoku has always been incredibly gentle with babies and toddlers, even when she was in her bouncy, chewy puppyhood.

Obviously you'll always monitor, and little babe will grow up learning how to "dog" well, but you know your dogs, and I bet they'll be terrific.

    Also: congratulations!

    Congratulations!

Now the waiting game which is probably the hardest part. Let us know when the puppies arrive.

LOL, had to double check, it's ArchieSit who is getting a guide dog puppy, not you. Congratulations on your soon to be new baby boy. At first I thought, wow, a human baby and a dog baby too.

I just made this post about a product for acclimating dogs to a coming baby. Might be of interest?

Dogs and Storks - Anyone Done This Programme?

I was over to see our neighbour's new baby on the weekend. She did not do the programme in the link but she did say their GR is good but very intent on getting his share of the attention. She never leaves the two together unattended, just, just in case.

I thought the same thing! But congratulations! That is so exciting! I can't wait to see all the baby + labs pictures, there's nothing cuter.

Congratulations! I am so happy for you guys! Labs are usually great with kids and babies, so I think there will be no problem.
