    Unexpected Pet Hazard

Oban is really gimpy today. We were away to a BBQ yesterday and a friend of OH, one of Oban's favourite people, came to feed and water him. I left a note saying no wild playing please, take the food I left for you in the fridge home, take some tomatoes too. Turns out he doesn't bring his reading glasses so couldn't read the note. Left the food and tomatoes here and played with Oban and Jolly Ball. Short walks for Oban should clear the gimp up. But I can't help but wonder, if friend can't read that big print, should he be driving?

I wonder if it was just an excuse? Get a 5" magnifying glass and lay it on top of the note for next time, you might use it for other things also.

My contacts are for distance only and I can drive fine with just them (I usually wear progressive bifocals but prefer contacts for some activities). I can't drive with readers over top of them because the reading strength messes up being able to see distances. The writing on the gauges isn't crystal clear, but I can still read them. The only thing I really can't read without major squinting is the odometer but it's got a different type of background and smaller numbers.

I know I don't always carry around my reading glasses when I wear my contacts so maybe verbally give him your instructions next time, or as Bernie suggested have magnifying glass available for him.

@Bernie The magnifying glass is a good idea. I hope the glasses were not an excuse, he knows Oban has an injured leg. Oban might have enticed him too, by taking the Jolly Ball to him.

@JC001 Maybe you should try mono vision contacts, that's what I have. -8 in one eye, -5.25 in the other eye. And I have progressive bifocals for backup. Yes, verbal instructions next time. But there were a few things to tell him about and a note as backup as well is something I appreciate myself when I look after someone's pet.

Poor Oban, he is worse this afternoon.

I hope Oban feels better soon.

@Snowshoe I did the mono vision contacts for awhile. Distance has stabalized but reading keeps getting worse as I age. When the difference got bigger my brain struggled adjusting and I caught myself closing one eye when I needed to see something in the distance and the other when reading so we had to reduce the strengths. Then I always felt like I was wearing glasses that were several prescriptions old and couldn't stand it. My friend has actual bifocal contacts so I may ask about them when I go to the eye doctor next time.

Know how much Oban wants to play hard so it may have been hard for the sitter to keep him slowed down.

    Sending good thoughts.

Maybe his idea of wild playing is different from your idea of wild playing? Perhaps he has Malanois or something? Hope Oban feels better soon...but I bet he had a blast!

Speak to your friend. I wear glasses for seeing Far. And if I forget them, I still drive. I know my way home and I can see the cars. I just can't see the street signs! And I have so many things going on I may miss a note left for me.

If you are annoyed, speak to your friend before the dog sit next time.
