Just finished 'Gulp: Adventures on the Alimentary Canal' by Mary Roach. Entertaining, funny and sickly humorous, about the human GI tract.

Have you read Stiff by the same author? I haven't read Gulp but found Stiff funny, enlightening, gross, all that, too!

Just finished 'Being Mortal' by Dr. Atul Gawande. It's an uplifting book about US medicine/health care and different strategies for handling the end of life. Timely for me and a good read for anyone interested in the subject.

My next serious read may be 'The Two Income Trap' by Elizabeth Warren. Ongoing popcorn is 'Winter of the World' by Ken Follett, the second in his Century trilogy.

Reading: 'The Black Swan' by Nassim Nicholas Taleb. From a review: "A black swan is a highly improbable event with three principal characteristics: It is unpredictable; it carries a massive impact; and, after the fact, we concoct an explanation that makes it appear less random, and more predictable, than it was." It's a challenging read, I can only digest a few pages at a time.

I have about six books in my queue.

Listening to: the computer's fan and the mantel clock ticking. In about an hour I'll tune in to Randy Bachman's radio show Vinyl Tap.

Maybe we can revive this thread.

I'm reading 'Foolproof: Why Safety Can Be Dangerous and How Danger Can Make Us Safe'. Bbedtime reading is 'Blue at The Mizzen' which is one of Patrick O'Brians' Aubrey-Maturin series. Listening to the mantel clock.

Hmmm, trying to think what I've read that's worth mentioning. I always enjoyed books by Dick Francis and Tony Hillerman. They have children who are now trying to follow their parents' literary careers. I listened to one by Felix Francis last week, Front Runner, that I enjoyed and I've read a few others of his. I have one by Anne Hillerman, Spider Woman's Daughter, that I have yet to read but hope to get to this week. On Amazon it's got a 4.5/5 rating from readers so I hope I enjoy hers as much as I enjoyed her dad's books. I'm currently reading Sugar House by Laura Lippman, whose books are set in Baltimore. That's fun to read books with locations you know. Umm, that neighborhood isn't really within walking distance of The Block.
