    Sugar in the Urine

Hi, just wanted to see if anyone else is dealing or has dealt with their lab having sugar in their urine. My chocolate lab is about 2 years old. She was getting up several times at night having to drink water and go to the bathroom. We took a sample of pee to vet, came back positive with sugar in urine. Today we took in several samples of pee today. All came back positive for sugar. We go again on Saturday with another sample, and the vet will do a blood test. What does this all mean? I guess what I want know is how serious is this? Am I just getting ready to give meds to my dog, or am I getting prepared for the worst? I have 3 kids and we just lost or yellow lab 2 years ago, and nobody is over it yet. Just want to know, vet is very calm, and saying not to jump to anything, we'll take it step by step. That's how it started with our yellow lab. So needless to say a little nervous. Anyone have any experience?

It sounds like your dog may be diabetic. If so it may take some time to get the doseage of insulin and the right food/feeding times to straighten her out but if managed correctly there is no reason your dog can't have a normal life. Hang in there, sending good thoughts your way.

Diabetes. Insulin and special food and regular blood tests to check her kidney function but it should be manageable.

    Sounds like diabetes.

Here's some info on dog diabetes. Definitely a way to control it. Just takes time to get the right balance.
