These things can come on unexpectedly, a friend of mine lost her old buddy to a hemangiosarcoma. While he was older, they were not anticipating it at all and there were no warning symptoms. Our thoughts remain with you.

Make no mistake, you are doing right by your beloved Zach. If they are not offering a splenectomy, perhaps the vet fears that once they got in there, they would find his organs so ravaged by the cancer that they would have to put him down while under anesthesia. This way, you can say goodbye to your Zach. There is quote somewhere about the worst day of a dog owner's life is the day you take his pain and make it your own. I'm so sorry you are going through this.

    Hugs,

    Sioux

Thank you all for your support. Zach did well this afternoon with IV and O2. He is home. He's a little tired (I think from just the events of the day) but he just ate a full dinner (and dessert).
We are just happy he is home with us. Our vet says he would be a candidate for a splenectomy but Zach does have 2 mets on the liver which isn't great. The vet doesn't feel comfortable performing the procedure. But we will still plan to see the oncologist on January 9. I hope we can get him in sooner. He thinks we should be open to the oncologist and see what she has to say. I just pray no more scares like today.

Thank you all again for your support and good karma. Please keep it coming. I sincerely believe in positive thought and karma. We are lucky he is home.
