    Watery Eye

    Hi all,

I have a 7 month old yellow with an intermittent eye issue. Mostly when I get home and let him out of his crate his right eye is all wet. Not goopy or buggery just wet. After I wipe it dry with my hand, it stays dry. Always the right eye, but not after every crating, almost never in the morning when he wakes up.

I am not overly concerned but I dont want to neglect something important. He has been to the vet who looked at it and said it looked normal (which it does most of the day).

    thoughts?

    Thanks

Could be allergies to food or even something environmental. One eye though, sounds like it could be something else. On the other hand, I have summer allergies and it's just my right eye that gives me grief.

its odd because it intermittent and does not continue after drying. if we take him in they will say it looks fine. the eye does look normal, there is no swelling, redness, or off color discharge...it just looks wet and wipes away easily, then stays away. its baffling...

Does he lie on his right side more than his left? If he's lying on something that you've cleaned with anything but maybe vinegar/water (hard surface), it could be irritation from fumes in the cleaning product.

Don't even get me started on how bad my eyes are with reacting to fumes (and my right is worse than my left).

Or, could he be facing an air/heat source? That'll irritate eyes, too...most likely more the one facing up.

Or....could that be drool he ends up lying in with his upper head and not from his eye at all?

It might be a sinus issue. Has your vet looked up his nose?

It could also be a tear duct problem. I had a cat years ago with a partially blocked tear duct and it became overactive as a result. The vet went in a couple of times to clear it but it never really worked itself out.

I would say no to all those questions... We may need a visit soon. None of that sounds good or affordable... the big hesitation is if it were any of those issues, it would not only occur when he is in the crate during the day. He is crated at night and sleeps very well, come out dry and clean. Come home from work and saucey eye - sometimes...

Hemi had the same thing last spring, pretty much the same symptoms, was really runny after waking in the morning as well. Labs have a 3rd eyelid, the vet can show it to you. You actually can see it, but most people do not know what they are seeing. Anyway his 3rd eyelid was inflamed and infected. It actually took a couple rounds of medication to fix it, the last round was administered to both eyes for 4 weeks. Quite honestly I would go to the vet and have it checked.

Again could be environmental, could be an infection, but it is something you have noticed, so I would go check it out.

Might worth a trip to a vet ophthalmologist.

Our Jagger has a partially blocked tear duct, so his eye looks wet a lot of the time. It's one of those things that they can fix if they have a need to put him under. We haven't done anything about it yet.

Update; took Kona in this morning and no infection, no hair growing inward, no lid issues eyes them selves got a clear review. The vet has him now to clear the tear duct. We decided not to wait since we have no other planned anesthesia hope to have him back with an hour or so. Hope that fixes it.
