    Torn nail

Earlier today thor started digging in ice because there was an old marrow bone under it somewhere. I made him stop since I didn't want him to hurt his paws. I did a quick check and didn't see anything.

Came home for dinner a little while ago and found a slightly bloody paw. The tip of one of his nails was broken off to the quick and it was bleeding lightly. I cleaned it off with warm water and added some antibiotic ointment. To keep him from licking it I used an old (clean) lost sock and athletic tape to keep him from licking the ointment. Anything else i should be doing? Thinking about how I treat that kind of injury on a long backpack and I'd just bust out the superglue.

He's registered for a K9 Keg Pull tomorrow (can't wait to share pics of that) so I hope its nothing. It doesn't seem to be bothering him. He wasn't licking at it at all until I put on the antibiotic ointment.

Pathetic dog picture - he is not happy about the sock:

If I understand it right, I'd think about sealing it with some sort of glue to keep it from re-opening during the keg pull (LOL).

I think we'll try that in the morning. He hasn't shown any sign of noticing it, so we'll proceed as planned unless he starts to show discomfort. I'm hoping that something like superglue might help protect the quick.

Is that one of Woody's lost socks? I've clipped a bit too far on nails and found they did sometimes open up again the next day. It's the exertion I guess, gets the blood pumping and out it pumps. I've never had one that needed a bandage so I wonder if the keg pull is a good idea.

I've experienced a few broken nails over the years, and they all healed up fine. I would think as long as he's not bothering it, shouldn't be an issue. Can't wait to see the pics from tomorrow!!!

What do you have to lose? I've never tried it on a dog but wouldn't bother me at all to do it. Not like it going to do any harm. The biggest problem will be you getting your fingers apart after gluing him up.

Very sadly, the event was cancelled due to weather! We have a TON of snow but yesterday it warmed up and it rained all night. Apparently the course they had spent all week building up ended up a sheet of ice this morning so they canceled for doggy safety. To say we are disappointed is an understatement!

    Here's a video
from last year - looks like so much fun, I'm so bummed that it was cancelled! I guess that means we'll have a year to train for next year! *cue Rocky music.
