Well, thank you for helping me to stay away from pasta. I do need to lose a few pounds before our vacation!

oh my Oban had a gut-full! I worried that i should be worming Scout when Trigger's 2nd dose of puppy wormer got rid of a few roundworms. But vets said no.... and 3rd round of worming produced nothing.

    That picture .... EW!!!!!

Thankfully we’ve never had worms. Probably because we give Heartgard Plus year round and it contains a wormer so it kills them off before we would see them.

I wonder if he had encysted eggs and some stressor just caused a release / activation to maturation like what happens w/ bitches after breeding? For that reason, breeders are now are told to deworm late in pregnancy to knock down the population, and then deworm at 2 wk intervals both mom and pups.

As for your cats, since roundworms can come from various sources, incl fleas as I recall (?), I'd definitely look into it. Revival Animal is my go to place for most all products anymore and they've always been helpful. Deworming Cats and Kittens | Revival Animal Health

Question- are that worms dead in the poop pics or are they just expelled and then did? If they are 'dead' can another animal get an infection from them by coming into contact?

This is interesting to know as I know spores of various parasites can be dormant while the host parasite is dead. I am so ignorant of parasites!!

The worms died before being pooped out. At this point I think (not sure and I've been reading too, info is hard to find) they are not infectious. However the Vets tell me eggs are likely present and they may not freeze quickly enough or deeply enough to prevent infection from spreading. They are cold hardy but I could not find out what temperature would do them in.

Thank you for sharing as I am one of the uninformed. I have never thought about worms specifically when Macy is off leash.

How long does this take for Oban to be in the clear?

You need to use a worming drug to cover the entire life cycle of the worm, usually every two weeks until clear, and a follow up (clear) fecal a few weeks later.

Yes, Oban got Strongid last Monday, will again in two weeks, then again in four weeks and faecal sample to Vet again. Strongid tastes like caramel, I'm told. It went down the gullet easily in his food.

WE aren't worming the cats. Joey will get something once a month when it warms up and he's out hunting again. He's hunting now but we aren't seeing any signs of success. The bird feeders were moved and fenced off so he can't sneak up on them
