That's great news! You both made it through! Now the "stop licking that!" phase begins.

Went to see zach tonight- he walked into the visiting room and looked really strong and steady. he laid down and we massaged him for a bit and just talked to him nice and quietly and told him what a good, strong boy he was and how proud we were of him. he was still pretty mopey/droopy/mushy as they are weaning him off his meds but he seemed at ease that we were there visiting with him. he was running a low grade fever (102.8)- they think likely due to the stress of the operation and just from being in the hospital but he is on antibiotic so that if we are headed toward some sort of infection issue it is being pre-treated. he will be under the watchful eye tonight of the vet techs and ER doctor- just zach and one other dog. they will closely monitor him which makes me feel good. they said all his vitals have been good throughout the day. unfortunately, he still wasnt interested in eating much but we brought him some chicken, sliced turkey, ritz crackers and corn muffins (i know those last two arent great for cancer patients but hes always loved them in the past and we felt they were nice and plain for his belly). they said theyd try later with the food. overall, we think he looked good and hopefully can take him home friday (we are in NY and are waiting to get slammed with snow so bringing him home tomorrow isnt an option, and we'd like him to be looked after an extra day anyway just to assure the fever doesnt need further attention).

thank you all for your continued support. missing my boy lots- the house isn't the same without the jingle of his collar or the pitter patter of his paws

Just spoke to the doctor. Zach is still kind of "blah" this morning. He is still on pain meds and not too interested in eating (not of great concern) but his RBC is down to 20. They will be giving him a blood transfusion and hopefully that will help his energy level

Sending more prayers for your Zach. I agree with the extra day, especially considering the snow storm.

Yes- it is better that he is there just in case he needs something they can provide it for him- if he came home and needed anything we would be in trouble. i have just never heard of dogs needing the transfusion during recovery? but i am hoping that it helps him

All good thoughts are headed Zach's way. Perhaps if he continues to dismiss food they can give him an appetite stimulant...might need an anti-nausea med. Tell the big guy he has lots of people rooting for him.

Thank you. We just called the vet. He's resting as they just finished the transfusion- he did spike a fever 103.2 and so he's on antibiotic- praying when we call back at 7 that he has more energy/is eating, good bloodwork, and that his fever went down. I am so worried

Poor guy. In his situation, I'd try anything I knew he liked to eat just to get him a little interested. Ritz crackers, corn muffins, McDonalds, filet mignon, yes, I'd do it. Hoping Zach is quickly on an upward swing and back with you when it's safe for all.
