Struggling with this decision. Back in the day, word was to neuter at 6 months. Talking 15 years ago. Now the research speaks to health benefits for not neutering males at all. that said we are struggling with Tobey, who is a frat boy on a kegger. My fourth lab and my toughest. Very head strong and independent. We are holding out as long as we can but in addition to being the biggest PIMB, he has started to mark in the house. Our toilets (which i sort of understand), and most recently my works suits. a big middle finger to me. He may not make it to the vet before he loses them......

I think my plan will be 18-24 mo of age.
My Zeke has an appointment to be neutered this coming Tuesday. I'm still going back and forth whether or not I should do it, I've read so many pro's and con's it's confusing, thinking on the subject seems to have changed over the years, I've also read that a Lab is normally done after waiting at least 18 months, Zeke is a few days over 16 months.

We decided from the beginning we would give Thor 2 years for the maturation reasons described here. (I think our contract was 18 mos). Then we'd take a 'we'll do it if we need to' approach. We decided sometime last year that it would be a good thing to do. Behavior wise, there is nothing that he does that can't be trained out, except the 'Leave it' for sniffing after coyotes seems to be difficult. But we live in a very dog friendly area where he gets to meet and play with off leash with dogs all the time. It's always supervised, but with lots of space and dogs there is always a chance something happens and I don't want to be responsible for an 'oops' litter.
Also, I've noticed that neutered males sometimes react poorly to him, so I'm hoping this helps with that.
