It's been about 3 weeks since we noticed the spot. I still can't really tell what is going on, but looking at the outer edge it almost looks like the pink of the gum is growing over the sore area. Unless it starts looking bigger/worse or it seems to irritate him we are going to hold off on doing anything else. Part of me wants to just biopsy it, but I know that will wind up as $1000 or so, and with all his bills the past 6-7 months I just can't handle more...
I know your in a tough spot. Sending prayers for you both.
sending good vibes. does she try to chew with that molar on that side? she could have missed and cut the gum?
Sending more prayers. It's so hard waiting to see what it's going to do.
I totally understand where you're coming from. Our dog before Sam had lymphoma and went through chemo. He developed complicated issues with his blood where there weren't enough mature red blood cells being released into his blood, resulting in collapse. The doctor suspected a tumor on his spleen but the only way to confirm was ultrasound or biopsy. At that point we had already spent thousands on treatment and felt that while the ultrasound or biopsy would give definitive answers, the cost outweighed the need to know for sure. We just switched chemo protocols based on what we felt was most likely going on instead of spending another $1000 or more dollars to know for sure. You feel bad making decisions because of money, but sometimes it has to be a consideration. After our experience with a dog going through chemo, we decided to give pet insurance a try. It helps take the sting out of a serious illness. Hopefully, Marley's spot will continue to improve with a wait and see approach and there will be no need for the biopsy!

He seems to chew more on the other side, at least from when I catch him eating things hes not supposed to (like mega bloks, plastic toy cars, plastic car tracks... if you haven't figured out the trend, he likes plastic).
It looks like an ulcer. It's flat, no raised parts, and pinkish in color. Those few things make this so confusing as most 'problems' aren't going to look like that. I wish I could tell one way or another if it was getting better or worse. This looking the same is killing me.
I don't mean to give you a hard time. but if this dog is into your kids toys and chewing on plastic etc..... you need to put a stop to it. One way or the other. It sounds like these plastic items are causing him to have gum issues.....
You need to keep them away from your dog.
Maybe I read your post wrong but that is what it sounds like to me.....
Please correct me if I misunderstood......
