Spot on soft palate (Marley's hemi-maxillectomy follow up)

I posted awhile ago about Marley, our now 4 year old yellow lab who was diagnosed with an ameloblastoma in December of last year. He underwent a hemi-maxillectomy surgery on his left side in early January, removing his 1st molar all the way to his canine, almost to midline.

Marley has had monthly follow ups and all has looked good. His last was end of May. I just noticed a pink spot on his soft palate, near his last molar. The vet that did his surgery is out of office this weekend, but I sent pictures over in hopes that he would be able to view them. I probably could have dropped him by for one of the other vets to see, I just feel more comfortable with his vet since he has been by his side since the start of the diagnosis (performed both surgeries and spent many hours talking with me on the phone). He is going to go in Monday morning when I head to work and I'll stop by home either at lunch or after work to pick him up. This way the vet can find a time convenient for him to look at him since he is booked up.

Here are pictures of his palate in case anyone wants to make a comment on what they see. Taking a picture of the roof of a dogs mouth is extremely difficult, especially with a dog that has had oral surgeries and does not want his mouth messed with anymore!

You can see the spot just up from his last tooth. I'm concerned as I don't remember this before.. but then again I wonder if maybe his gum just pulled apart from stress, or if he damaged it being the nut that he is. We did go to an event last weekend and he ran around for 2 hours with some other dogs, so who knows if maybe he hurt himself?

Here is a picture from surgery after he was stitched up:

Sorry for the long post. I'm just worried about this. Marley had 2 surgeries, the first to biopsy and remove the initial mass, the second was the hemi-maxillectomy. He also had to have a CT after we got the diagnosis. I know if it has returned we have to sit down and decided what to do. His surgeries and CT scan were over 7k all together and I know we can't do that again. We did not want to subject him to radiation, especially since it meant driving a distance to the place that offers it.. and it had a 5k price tag. I'm just stressed as to what we will do, even though we have no idea if there is anything.

Anyone want to give an opinion? Good thoughts are also appreciated.

I'm so sorry for your worries. Try not to get ahead of yourself. I'm sure it's hard not to panic after everything that Marley went through. Its really hard to tell what's going on. Hopefully it's an injury or ulcer or something totally unrelated to what he has been through. Could it be scar tissue? Sorry I'm no help. But I will send all good thoughts and prayers to you and Marley that this is nothing!

I'm really hoping it is scar tissue or just that the gum and palate separated. The used his gum line from his cheeks to close the gap from where his teeth were.

In the mean times, lots of positive thoughts. He will be at the vet first thing Monday morning and they will call with an update. I wish I could stick around but it's my last day at work and I can't really miss much of it.

I though Archie had extensive dental work done. Poor Marley, he's been through the mill. The spot sure doesn't look "angry". Hopefully, at the most he just irritated the roof of the mouth. I am so surprised that Archie is not more mouth shy or sensitive than the average dog.

Sending mojo and prayers. Please keep us updated.
