    Grapefruit

Tonka just stole a piece of my grapefruit off my plate. Just a small piece, further investigating on dr. Google told me it's super toxic for them.
Shal I be taking him to the vet? He didn't eat the skin. Just the actual fruit part.

I'm glad he's ok and thank you for posting. I did not know grapefruit was toxic to dogs. I just googled and found the skin, pith and seeds are worst but couldn't get a couple of sites up so I wonder how much they have to eat of any part before symptoms are likely to be seen?

Did they give you any guidelines about grapefruit? Maybe one slice for a 50+ pound dog is OK or something like that? I'd never known that grapefruit was toxic, either...never saw it discussed here. Chocolate we can say OK/not OK pretty much based on amount and size of dog but grapefruit, not so much.

So if you found out anything specific it would help the board going forward.

Interesting. I found some sites say the fruit is OK but the peel, pith, seeds, and plant are not. Not all the info appears consistent. I guess i'll just skip grapefruit. I wonder if grapefruit has the same effect on meds or supplements that dogs take as it can with human medications?

News to me too. Did not realize grapefruit was on the no-no list.

Sorry. I'm just checking in now.
The vet said he would have to eat like the whole thing to become super ill.

Clinical Signs: Vomiting, diarrhea, depression; potential dermatitis. Fruit is edible, skins and plant material can cause problems.
