If he is not putting weight on the foot, the typical "worst case" is a torn cruciate ligament. Does it look like he's "toe touching" when he walks?
First of all, I plan on taking him in to vet tomorrow. But I'm just at a loss as to what is happening and reading stuff on google is freaking me out. He's a big boy, not obese, but probably a bit overweight, maybe around 90 lbs. Around Monday or Tuesday he started limping, not wanting to bear weight on his back leg. It started pretty suddenly. We were inside and he's lying around and at one point I just notice that he's limping. I checked his leg to see if maybe he had a piece of glass in his paw but it looks fine. Not broken, etc. When I touch his leg and slowly extend it he doesn't seem to be in pain or anything like that. It's a bit better today, he's putting a little more weight on it, but still limping a bit. The only thing out of the ordinary that happened was this weekend or Monday my husband was playing with the dogs when he came home and Cocoa likes to jump up when he gets excited. My husband grabbed him by the front legs at one point when they were playing as he jumped up and Cocoa let out a loud yelp like something had hurt real bad.
Anyone been through this before? I keep reading about hip displasia and wonder if the sudden movement the other day dislocated something. I'll post a video of the limp in a little bit when i have more posts.

My thought as well.

Your Stories and Information About Labs with Cranial Cruciate Ligament (CCL) Tears
Yes he is doing that toe touching. Sometimes he bears a little weight on it, as you can see in the video, but he does that toe tapping thing too. It seems to be getting better by the day but not enough.
Here's a video I just took of him.

yeah the most likely isuse is CCL tare (but it CAN be other stuff too; CCL just the most common). See your vet but start looking for an orthepic specialist (certified Surgeon). ACVS
In the meantime strict rest. No jumping no running, keep on leash if needed. Some small tares they'll improve and maybe get back to normal for awhile before limping again.
If it is a CCL issue, lots of members here (including myself) have gone thru surgery for CCL (some have some rehab/conservative management) and some are currently in recovery.

Yeah....looks like knee to me, too.
It also looks like he appreciates his collar about as much as Sunnie appreciates hers. (see if I can kick this thing off)
Good thoughts that resting (and some weight loss...sorry) will alleviate the problem. My Danny has an intermittent limp...has had it for about 5 years now. The way my two play around the house, I'm not surprised that some movement triggers it from time to time (not often). We rest him and then he's good to go again. The vet agrees with this approach for him.
It looks more and more like CCL might be it. A website had a picture of a dog sitting with his leg to the side, and I had Cocoa sit a few times after I picked up the kids from school, and sure enough, he keeps the affected leg off to the side.
Sending good thoughts your way hoping for the best.
That's how my Samson was walking around when he tore his left CCL. Best wishes to you and your pup. Be careful on that surface...very slippery for him. Samson had TTA surgery in July last year and is 100% now. No limp at all. Keep us posted!
We also went through this last June. Best of luck to you! Timber is good now-but we also have to take off weight! Doctor said that makes a big difference. Let us know how vet visit goes!
