I'll see if I can check in the mountain of stuff I have on Oban. That sounds familiar.
Cobalamin malabsorption?
After being ill and having surgery, I'm finally taking Maverick into the vet. We're doing a full blood panel including thyroid. We're also rechecking a stool just because it wasn't this vet that checked the last one in the beginning of January. Ultimately, after listening to the symptoms, they are wondering if it is Cobalamin malabsorption. Of course allergies were also thrown in there and I don't disagree with that. I did tell them that before we started trying different foods I wanted to be sure it wasn't something else first.
So, any experience with this cobalamin malabsorption if that's what it is?

I only talked to the vet tech, we see the vet for preliminary blood tomorrow. It sounds like it's maybe a b-12 issue because he'd have to get injections every month. They're pretty sure this is what's going on. It would be easier than diagnosing allergies IMO.

Ok, Oban was only very slightly deficient and did not even get the full series of b 12 shots, just one actually. This was before he had the gastroscopy the ultrasound indicated was needed, but could not be completed, and then he got a faecal implant. His blood levels have been fine since and in April we will do a thorough check on everything, it being two years after his second serious gut issue and the implant. I was given to understand some dogs (and people) need the shots lifelong, some only for a couple of weeks and Oban didn't need but the one. Pardon me, two shots, one at each Vet. We were investigating me doing them if they'd be needed for longer, people do their own on themselves. But it wasn't needed.

Do you have a link for Oban's health issues thread?

Ok so we did a draw for liver, kidneys, glucose, a CBC, a T4, and are sending samples for a UA and a Fecal. We should have results tomorrow and we'll figure out the next step then.

I'll go back and get some links for you. I should for myself as well as that is where I recorded a lot of stuff, on comments here.

All labs were normal so far. I forgot to ask for a copy of the results to get exact numbers. Maverick was drawn today for TLI, cobalamin, folate, and PLI. These test for EPI, a B-12 deficiency, and pancreatitis. These results could take a week to come back. Wish us luck!

So, would this be like pernicious anemia in humans? What symptoms are you seeing? I don't know anything about it, just the B12 deficiency made me think pernicious anemia.
I Can't Give B12 Injections Myself? Why Not? Did/Does Anyone Do Their Own?
Here's the thread on B 12. When I read this I saw my memory is faulty, Oban got four injections out of a usual series of six. VEt decided he did not need the last two.
I have gone through to put links to his allergy and gut issues (Lymphangiectasia) all in one place in an album under my name so I can find them more easily myself. I'm still looking them up but if you want several are there now and I think the thread titles will tell you if they are applicable to Maverick. I think this ^ is the main one you want for now. Good luck.
ETA: Found another one on B 12
YAY! Albumin up to 22
