Timing for poop issues (warning: graphic poop descriptions)

Around midnight, Kimber pooped in her sleep (on our bed, yay). Although she is having backend weakness and this could be part of it, this poop was soft-serve ice cream consistency and when I woke up (which was such a fun midnight awakening!) and took her outside, she had some noisy, splashy poop. She had had a normal bowel movement during her evening walk, so I'm more prone to thinking this was tummy-upset poo. She went to sleep after the midnight fun and slept through the night without trouble. So my question: If she ate something that set her off, how long would it take to show up in a poop? 12 hours? 24? More or less?

She stays very close to us these days, so we've been wondering what she could've eaten. Narrowing the window to "when" might help with the mystery.

PS. Today, she ate breakfast and lunch with her usual labby enthusiasm. No poop, not even her usual morning one, but she's probably empty from last night.

Personally, I don't try to pinpoint what caused it. An Immodium or a Pepto or two usually clear it up. At least for us.

Things that upset dog's tummies/guts seem to go through them pretty fast. Like you, no surprise there was no poop this morning. Since there are no other symptoms and no further soft serve, I would not worry.

Yeah. Here's hoping tonight is full of sleep and empty of poo! (She pooped on the evening walk and while a little mushy, seemed ok.)

Gabe takes about 12 hours to go thru. I really know the soft serve context and it shows me that his gut isn't working right. Normally I can think back and remember something he eat that he should not have or I gave him something I should not have. Generally 12-24 hours of only kibble gets everything back to normal.

    Hugs for Kimber and you.

hm. I hope she's feeling better & that you don't have to worry about bed-poop again anytime soon. I am also here because how ironic: Dakota is now having soft serve poop as well and the smell is pretty bad. I, like you am now wondering how long does it take something to get through their system...because I gave her this fish oil and liquid glucosamine yesterday I think and today she is having this issue. *sigh* she is having back end weakness as well and *sigh* she has occasionally pooped on the bed in her sleep-I think we've talked about this similarity in the past haven't we? How old is Kimber? Dakota will be 13 in June.....

Kimber's 11.5, but she had a spinal injury 4 years ago that temporarily paralyzed her back end. With rehab, she got back to about 80% of her previous strength. She's been weakening fast since last summer, but she's still full of Kimber spirit. It's rough.

Last night was uneventful. Hopefully tonight will be too! Thanks for the positive thoughts.

Ok that's right I remember now. Sweet Kimber. What can you do for the back end weakness?
Glad it was an uneventful night, a good nights rest helps alot.

We've talked to our rehab vet; at this point, it's about preserving quality of life and trying to diminish the speed of the atrophying. We're tried different meds and exercises, but she's just not improving. Monthly chiro and acupuncture has been the most effective by far.

In one of those tough conversations, our vet said that even without the injury, she'd probably be slowing down because she's definitely getting up there in age. Then the vet looked into Kimber's big smiling face and said, "But there's still so much Kimber left in her." We all got a little weepy.
