routine after outs in the woods

took chili out in the wilderness last 3 days. noticed inside one of his ears had bunch of bug bites, redness, even tiny scabs... also noticed he had some white stuff on top of nose which I wiped off quite a few times, but kept coming back...was thinking spring allergies?? anyhow, just wondering how you go about checking/treating your dog after some wildness different than his normal routine.

I cleaned his ears and they were nasty just after 3 days

Was the white stuff sort of a rim around where hair meets his nose? That's probably some dried sweat, mostly salty if you dare to give it a taste.

My vet said vinegar diluted to half strength with water is fine to use, or witch hazel. I use a formula that I think blackboy attributed to JenC recently and it has been working better than anything I've used before. I just pour the tea tree oil and boric acid powder into the bottle of witch hazel and shake well. If I've written this wrong, I hope one of them will correct me. You should probably only use it if you're sure there's no ear infection.

1 bottle witch hazel (16 oz)
8-10 drops of tea tree oil
    2 teaspoons boric acid powder

Best to put runny liquid in a cotton ball and then gently squeeze into ear and wipe.
