Lameness (on surgery leg) 9 months after TPLO

    Hi all,

Has anyone had experience with complications of TPLO, long after surgery time? Quinn (almost 2 yrs old now) had a successful TPLO 9 1/2 months ago with a smooth rehab and her recovery has been great with full activity up until now. She is noticeably showing lameness....moments of being 3 legged, skipping, weight offset for a couple days now. I DID take her to the vet yesterday for discussion and x rays of hip and knee....the xrays have been sent to the surgeon and I hope to hear from her on Monday to advise. She is now on tramadol/metacam (with little benefit, I think). It's not arthritic changes that are the problem as arthritis is minimal as she is still so young. It's so hard to wait to hear from dr after all we have been through with surgery....does anyone have any thoughts on what the problem could be? It would be helpful to know if others had a similar experience :-)

Thanks from Quinn & her Ma ;-) (and her 3 American Cocker 'siblings')

Our old boy, now gone, had 2 TPLO's done. Our surgeon told us the only time we should see problems is when the body rejects the screws. And that should be seen on an xray very easily. I supposed it could be something else....hopefully you hear back from them!

I sure did. Left knee was done 3-17-16, blew the other one out on 11-16-16. All was good and started holding the left one up Feb of this year. X-rays looked great. Vet took a fluid sample from the joint and she went on antibiotics. She was good for a month and leg went back up.

We took all the hardware out last week on both knees. So far so good. I can't hold her down. Good thoughts your way.

Did you ever get an answer on this from the vet? Curious. Our pup had TPLO and she's 3 months post and I'm thinking about long-term. We were told some dogs in the long run reject the plate but curious to know how this one ended up. Hope all is well!!!

I'm hoping you will get answers and that she gets better. My boy Cocoa has ACL and we decided not to do the surgery, and honestly this was something I was afraid of.
