That was the quote I got on Pippin just a couple days ago. I"m guessing they had a general increase for Labs. She's only 15 wks old so I really thought it'd be less. I think looking at the bottom line, I'll remain self insured, though "someone" is transporting rocks into the garage...

I take back what I said about FIGO pet insurance. I just got my renewal notice for the boys. Charlie's policy went up $500 and Niner's $200. Signed them up with Healthy Paws. I will be canceling FIGO after the waiver period for Healthy Paws ends. This is exactly what happened with Pet plan.

Just a note about Petplan because I think there may be some misinformation being spread. Yes, they changed underwriters and as a result, their premiums did go up, in some cases significantly. Their plans are also less reimbursement if you want to keep them affordable. Which really upset me when I got my renewal letter. However, I have NEVER heard of them dropping dogs when they get older. In fact, they say they will never do that. So my guess is that whoever thinks that happened got confused when they switched underwriters. They had to legally issue a notice that they were cancelling all of the old policies in effect under their old underwriter. However, continuous coverage was still there under the new one if you renewed. My Brandy turned 12 this year and was renewed with no issues.
And as she was diagnosed with cancer in April, I will never complain again about the cost of the premiums. Petplan has covered literally everything - her surgery, her staging tests, her oncology visits, AND all of the holistic methods we are using to try to keep the tumor from coming back. When I say that, I am talking invoices from Amazon, where I get some of her supplements, to invoices for an herbal product that is extremely expensive (though essential to successful treatment of cancer according to my holistic vet) and I would never be able to afford it if they didn't cover it. I haven't researched pet insurance companies in a long time, but I don't think many of them cover alternative treatments. At least, not to the extent that Petplan does. Something to keep in mind.
We went with Healthy Paws. Signed Chutes up at 9 weeks old. We'll see how it goes.
