Im not a big flu vaccine guy even after getting them mandatory from govt for over 20+ years...chili has never gotten one and hasnt been sick yet...knock on wood.
A friend from our training center who is a vet is getting enough vaccine for all the dogs who train there, and offering it at cost to students (she’ll do the vaccinations this week at class). Given that we show, and I’ve already had to skip a show this past weekend due to the current outbreak (that or basically be quarantined and not be allowed to attend class for a while), I think it’s the right decision for us.
And the vaccine she has is bivalent, so covers both strains in a single shot (she’ll do the booster in 2-3 weeks, too). Last time I asked, my regular vet didn’t even carry the vaccine, but they don’t have many clients who attend dog shows (so being around dogs who’ve traveled from other areas) so probably didn’t have much demand for it, given there haven’t been major outbreaks around here yet.

In your situation, think I'd make the same decision.
There has been so much canine flu around here in the past 2 years but opted out. I've just not taken Archie in heavy dog use areas, parks, etc. We have enough fun at BassPro, the marina, local walking trails, etc.

We don't board our dogs often but we do need to board them once or twice a year. Our kennel's vet is our regular vet and on his recommendation they require the canine influenza vaccine and bordatella in addition to standard core vaccines. My dogs get them every year.

This came in my email yesterday. I haven't read it, don't think it's as much a problem here, if at all. But here you go, might be worth a read.

Yeah, I’ve read that (and several other pieces floating around out there including one from a vet sent out by the AKC). Some of the stuff floating around (like this one) implies that the flu isn’t that serious and unless you have an immunocompromised dog, it’s best just to let them get through it. What I’m hearing about the latest outbreak though is that the dogs were MUCH sicker this time (there were some fatalities but even the dogs that didn’t die were more miserable for longer). For example, my trainers have a friend whose dogs became sick and her younger dog spent over a week in the ICU being treated - fortunately he pulled through. This is an article written by a vet whose dogs got sick this time around which is pretty scary - Best In Show Daily.
Plus, while my dogs are not immunocompromised they are frequently around dogs who may be and I want to lessen the risk of them becoming asymptomatic carriers and making someone else’s dog sick. While it seems like this latest outbreak may be dying out, the fact that it occurred and was spread through dog shows is a major concern as it is likely to pop up again and again. If my guys were just companion animals who didn’t frequent those sorts of situations I probably wouldn’t bother, but given that Chloe especially, has been showing almost every weekend, and we frequently travel out of our immediate area for show, I just feel like it’s worth trying even though no vaccine is 100%.
