Unrelated questions about panting and running

So my first question is about panting. How much is normal? How long should it last. I feel like sometimes my dog pants too much but I could just not be aware of what is normal. Sometimes I feel like he does it when the situation does not need it. He has access to water, is inside the house where it is 72-75 degrees, and he will pant sometimes. Anything to be concerned about?

Second question has to do with his gait when running. He never appears to be in pain or discomfort, enjoys and gets excited about running, and seems to walk normal. But when running I notice he seems to do something weird or off with his back right leg. I will mention we do not go on runs together, not yet. He is healthy and active 18 month male lab that is about 80lbs. His running is when I throw a bumper to retrieve in yard or when son and I are riding bikes in cul de sac and he runs around us. But once I am recovered fully from my knee surgery, another 6-8 weeks, and i start running again I want him to run with me. Is having a little hitch in his giddy up something to be concerned about?

I'll mention the panting is not heavy or constant. Just seems random at times. Dogs temperament seems normal during the period as well.

Is your air humid? Is he overweight at all?

As far as the leg, you'd have to show us a video. If he is limping or off, then I would take him to the vet or at the very least, get a clear video for the vet because, like a car, it won't happen when you need it to happen! Some younger dogs are still awkward as they find their legs, but I'd think that at 18 months, he should be past that stage.

I've noticed that Archie will sometimes pant in the house. The house is cool and it isn't right after a play session or being outside. It does not last long and it's not excessive. Remember, it's the way dogs perspire.

Luna pants if the house is over 68 degrees, and even then she's laying on the cold bathroom floor. I think dogs are like people in that respect... my father is ALWAYS hot, no matter where we are, and my mom is ALWAYS wearing a sweater.

My dogs overheat more quickly as they get older and they pant more often. The weird gait should be checked by the vet. Just establish a baseline and keep getting it checked on the annual visit. Our Argos has had a bunny hop since he was young but it's not dysplasia. I keep a close eye on it though.

Maxx is always hot and really minds any temperature over 72° - 75°. He pants a lot, it seems the only time he doesn't is while swimming. He is black with a very heavy coat, I never really worried about it. Agree you should let the vet check out your dog's gait and definitely put off any running plans until it is checked. Personally, I wouldn't run a dog that is bothered by the heat.

I wouldn't worry much about panting - just some dogs do that more that the others. I've got one yellow & one black - the black girl is almost always hot & she's constantly panting. At first we thought there's sth wrong with her but she was well checked by our vet and she's absolutely fine.
About legs I'd go to the vets and ask for xray as that can be nothing but can be some hips problem so it's better to know.

Thanks everyone. I feel better about the panting. I am a baby in the cold so I keep my house 74-75 in the summer. It could be that. He is def not overweight, I keep him pretty lean and active. Also, since I have him on raw diet I know exactly how much food he gets compared to his body weight.

I will make a vet appointment next week. Anyone have an idea of how much an x-ray should cost?

I will try to get a video of his running, both to post here and for the vet. I've paid more attention to it the last few days and it is more exaggerated at some times than others. It seems like his back right leg pulls up and or out a bit. Hopefully nothing and he can be my running partner once I am cleared to run again.
