    Canine acne?

Linus has some acne-like bumps on his chin. They are more flat than zit-like. I squeezed it last night to see what would happen and a tiny bit of pus came out. It seemed like little hairs were coming out, too, but I'm not sure. I noticed it a few days ago. Ironically, I had purchased a stainless steel bowl a day or two after noticing it. I currently have them on a plastic water bowl with the water cooler so I am not filling it all the time, but whenever we go somewhere with water in a stainless steel bowl, he feels the need to drink it all plus some, so I decided to get them one, thinking he doesn't drink as much because he might not like the bowl. I'm hoping it helps.

I started cleaning his chin after eating and dabbing the spot with Vetericyn twice a day. I've only been doing this for a day, so no change (it's not worse, either). I' also washing their food bowls after each meal (stainless steel). Just wondering if anyone else has experience with this?

No...but I blot chins after every meal...they're always wet.

If you've been using plastic, it's probably that.

Haven't really noticed it with either of mine since they were little. Chase would get some odd bumps or pustules on his chin or flews when he was young, but not for several years now. I think I washed his chinny chin chin with Hibiclens or used Stridex pads, not being familiar with Vetericyn. They've been using stainless steel bowls since always and we've not had any issues with canine acne in years.

Jed used to have something like that when he was a young dog, had a little scarring from it. Once I scrubbed it and wiped a lot of Neosporin on it, it finally healed up.

I've been using the same plastic water bowl for, gosh, seven years? No issues. But, also, even Linus is showing some environmental allergy signs this year, not bad, but noticeable. All four of us (yep, the cat, too) have some symptoms. It's brutal for everyone on this side of the world this year due to all of the water, but the flowers this year are AMAZING! Anyway, thinking maybe this year his skin is extra sensitive. Who knows... Either way, we are now using the giant stainless steel bowl. Hopefully it helps.

I started washing his chin with my Nutrogena sensitive skin salacytic acid wash, rinsing then drying it, and giving it a spritz of Vetericyn (which is like Bacatracin, Neosporin, etc. for animals, but it's scent and sting-free - it's wonderful stuff around the face, eyes, mouth, and for sensitive animals since it basically smells and feels like water). It is getting better!

Where was the stainless steel bowl made? Some countries use poor quality steel with impurities and other metals in it. Might irritate sensitive skin.

Scully had this ... in her case it started as allergies on her belly/privates which caused inflammation and eventually a skin infection. She licked herself and the infection spread to her chin. Antibiotics eventually cleared it up ...
