    Post Dental cleaning issues?

Hi everyone. My 10 yo lab had a dental cleaning done this morning. All was well and we brought him home about 3pm. His appetite is good but his bowel movement was a bit loose. I am most concerned about his slowness is standing up. It seems like his back legs are still weak. Is this normal? I hope this is a temporary side effect of the anesthesia. He had a dental cleaning in December 14 but I don't remember this issue before. Any advice is appreciated!

The first 24 hours all of mine have been sluggish, still working off the anesthesia. I would not worry before that time is up. A loose bowel movement, unless it's watery diarrhea, would not bother me either. Remember, he got a lot of IV fluids and has not really eaten anything.

I home seniors and have quite a few who have had some type of dental work done at your boy's age and older and given a day or two of recovery time, they are back to normal.

You know your dog the best, if he does not seem right after 24 hours, call the vet.

    Sending good thoughts.

Thanks Poptop for your reply. It made me feel better. I am hopeful that this will improve by tomorrow and he will get back to his usual playful self soon. If not, I'll call the vet before he leaves for the weekend.

    Best wishes, Dyann

As Fran said....I've noticed more reaction to the anesthesia as my pets have aged....perfectly normal unless it lasts too long. None of mine have ever really had an issue after about 48 hours. Just keep an eye on him.
