    Cold Tail

Charlie just got over another bout of cold tail. He had it last fall and we treated it with hot compresses and he was much better by the next day. This time it took a little longer. Ideally, I would treat it with Metacam which is what the vet prescribed the first time he had it. Does anyone know if you can buy Metacam without a prescription?

My VEt says a full strength buffered aspirin once in a blue moon won't hurt. I gave Oban one. He only needed one for one night. It wasn't buffered either, but he got it with food.

We sometimes have Rimadyl laying around (if we didn’t finish a prescription for someone), but if not, buffered aspirin is our go-to NSAID for something like that where we’re pretty sure what is wrong and it’s not serious but does seem uncomfortable. Haven’t needed it much though.

My older dog had it and it must have been a bad case. It took about 6 weeks to totally resolve. It seemed to happen out of the blue. Only happened once. Not had it since.

That does sound bad! Both Mulder and now Chloe have had it several times and it’s taken 3-4 days to recover from each time.
