Where is the lump on his leg?
Hi I have a 5 year old yellow male. He is otherwise healthy and has a very good appetite. Recently he has been slowing down and with the summer finally here, he has not been as active. I attributed it to his age as well he will be 6 in 2 weeks. I woke up this morning noticing a marble size lump on his hind leg. Being right before the holiday week I decided to bring him in. He has lost ten pounds in 2 months and actually asks for more food than he usually gets so I was surprised he lost so much. The vet did a needle aspiration and said he didn't see anything to scary. But there are some cells and inflammation. He doesn't think it is infected. He said he will send the aspiration to pathology. Should get the results in a week. He said he did not think it was anything major but did blood work too just in case. He is happy does not seem to be in any pain. A little lethargic but he eats like a horse. Concerned because he is young. Any advice would be appreciated.

No advice but sending good thoughts that the lump will be nothing to be concerned about...bloodwork, too.
Unfortunately, it's a waiting game. If the test results come back negative, I would check out thyroid. If the thyroid values come out normal on the standard blood work, have them send a sample to Jean Dodds at HemoPet.
Hemopet Hemolife Thyroid Testing
She is the person in the US for evaluating nonstandard thyroid values. Your vet should know who she is.
Lump is located right in the middle of his ankle on the joint. When needle aspiration was done there was no fluid drawn. Cyst is a marble size very moveable and not on the bone. Checked a t4 also for thyroid 2 months ago and was in the low normal range. Was repeated today too. Was not sure if I should ask about t3 too. Thanks for good thoughts.
Just sending along lots of hugs, prayers, & positive thoughts & vibes for your boy! Please keep us posted!

Sending lab board MOJO, good thoughts and prayers for your boy. I HATE LUMPS of any kind!! Hope it is something like a lipoma and harmless.
Vet called and said that his blood work was fine including a t4 for thyroid. Waiting for pathology though. Thanks for the good thoughts.

The 10 pound weight loss in 2 months is something else I would talk to the vet about. I assume he did all the other standard lab values for liver, kidneys, blood glucose etc? I would think you'd want to nail that down too. Sending good thoughts.
