    Hiking "boots" for Labs

Hiking does a number on my dog's pads/paws. Can anyone recommend dog boots for this purpose? Or tell me which ones to steer clear of? Thanks!

For summer or winter? This is kind of important, dogs sweat through their feet so putting boots on them in summer can actually cause them to overheat. Generally though given enough regular training and time by starting small hikes daily and maybe longer on the weekends the paws should build up callouses like human hands and feet do.

A topical though that can be used is mushers secret. This is great paw pad protection in summer and winter, it is a wax that can be applied to the paw pads and offers protection kind of like adding a second skin.

For pads that are cut up or torn they need to fully heal. Keep them clean and then for relief you can use Solarcane sunburn relief spray you buy from the drugstore. It has a topical pain reliever and aloe in it to help speed recovery.

Jeff gave great info. It's also important to be very aware of the surfaces you are hiking on.
