    acupuncture? and rapid decline

I have no energy to write because I'm so sad and disappointed.
3 days ago Cilek had electroacupuncture for the first time and her symptoms are worsening day by day.
Today is the worst. She cannot stand still for a minute most of the time. She pees while lying down. She lost appetite.
Vet also prescribed her some Chinese herbs. I gave her those until today regularly. Vet said that one of them might cause nausea, vomitting and diarrhea.
She has nausea but not vomitting or diarrhea.
    She also has muscle tremors.

I sent her videos to the vet and he said we can do a blood test next week and acupuncture does not have such effects.
I'm not sure. I blame the last treatment, either electro acupuncture or herbs. This can't be a coincidence.

I've decided to stop all the treatment/supplements. I'm trying to make her better and instead making her worse. I don't know what to do.

    Oh, gosh, Oya...this is distressing.

I'm wondering if the type of acupuncture used was too strong....or needle placement was "off"...and it stimulated Cilek's nerves...causing the problems you're seeing. It might be a temporary side effect....but certainly not something that should be so dismissed by the vet. According to this link, there are special precautions to be taken with electroacupuncture (link for human use): Electroacupuncture At the very least, Cilek is probably confused and scared by how she feels.

Do you know which herbs were used? You might be able to find side effects for each one and see if you get a match to her symptoms.

I'm really thinking it was the acupuncture, though. (When I first hurt my back, I was given passive physical therapy and could not use the electrical stimulation because of pain...I had an undiagnosed pinched nerve and it stimulated the heck out of that. When my Hershey's spinal stenosis was misdiagnosed as pulled groin muscles, he also was totally freaked out by electrical stimulation...I had it stopped....because of nerve involvement.) Regular acupuncture most likely wouldn't hurt Cilek, but I'd stay away from the electro....permanently.

I'm so sorry things are not working. All I know about electro acupuncture is my Vet says it would be great for Oban but he's too wiggly and she would not be able to keep on target. She had it herself recently for her back and is very enthusiastic about the results on herself.

We just came from the vet. Another vet.
I called our arthritis vet to tell the situation in more detail. He said it can be something else, so he told me to take her to the nearest vet for some tests.
    So I took her.
Tests came back normal. Organs are fine.
He made a physical examination and decided that this is totally neurologic (besides nausea). He applied pressure to some points on her vertebra and at some point she bends, I mean, can't stand still.

He doesn't think it is because of acupuncture. I insisted on that everything was fine until the acupuncture. He said this is like a last drop. Sometimes everything seems ok until some point and then all of a sudden it happens.

We talked a lot but making a long story short, Cilek is not fine. He suggested me shaving her back because pee will irritate her skin etc. Hearing all these is awful.
I do not have much choices left. MRI and then if it is something operable then operation or cortisone treatment. I said I do not want MRI or any operation on her backbone. He suggested me to talk our vet about cortisone treatment.
The one who made gold implantation and acupuncture on Cilek is a famous vet, he has a lot of experience on this. When you say arthritis or another similar condition everybody gives his name. So probably, I'm the unlucky one.

She didn't eat her food today. This is the first time in her 12.5 years of life she refused eating.
I hope this is temporary. I still think that this might be an adverse reaction.

Anything with electricity scares me. The acupuncture part I would think be OK, but the other along with it, I would question.

Sending arms load of lab board MOJO. many good thoughts and prayers that things will work out ok. Hugs coming too-

Gosh, I'm hoping everything settles back to normal. I'd worry more abut the herbs than the acupuncture but I'm just not into herbal "remedies" in general. I'm glad her blood tests came back OK. Sending my best thoughts that this clears up.

I am so very sorry. Cookie's physical therapist told me that in the beginning of treatment it may happen that they feel worse. I wonder if that happened to Cilek. I have no experience with acupuncture though.

Oya, I'm so sorry, and sending lots of hugs! You have always done everything you possibly could to keep Cilek & Tilya happy & healthy! When our babies get old, at some point, no matter what we try in order to keep them with us, no amount of money spent or treatments given can keep them with us forever, even though we always want to try! I hope & pray Cilek is not there yet! Maybe she was upset by the herbs or electroacuppuncture, and she will feel better & eat soon......Is she on Rimadyl? If she is, did the vet recheck her liver levels?

Molly is on the new arthritis med, Galliprant, & so far it really seems to be helping her, & no side effects that I've noticed.

Seems like a cortisone injection might be helpful to try & see if it works.....I had a cortisone shot put into my hand to help a finger that I was having trouble with, & it has helped a lot.

I'm sorry you are going through so much--I know how it is with old dogs.....My 13 year old Molly is winding down some, but still seems o.k for the most part. I notice her back end is much weaker & more unsteady than it used to be & when I walk her down the road, sometimes I hear her nails scrape on the road. One of her nails is very short on the foot that does this the most. She is stiff & a lot slower than she used to be, so we only take 1 walk down to the end of the road early in the morning while it is cool. The rest of the day we just do short walks outside to potty--it makes me sad, but she doesn't seem to mind that things have changed. Dogs live in the moment, & I have to remember that.

Sending along hugs, positive thoughts & prayers, & hopes that Cilek will feel better & start eating again, & then will do well for a long time yet! We are here for you whenever you may need us!

She is not on Rimadyl for a week. I used it for 2 weeks and then stopped to see what happens. Nothing changed. Vet checked her liver values too, everything is in normal range. This vet also told me that gold implantation is a kind of painkiller. Now she doesn't seem to be in pain but very lethargic. She also seems confused. Yesterday night I thought maybe she was in pain so gave her Rimadyl but again, nothing changed.
1 hour ago I took her out, she just stayed there doing nothing. I thought maybe she can't hold the position for peeing so I helped her but she did not pee. I waited for some time. Then she peed herself. We came to a point that I feel happy when my dog pees like a normal dog.

She still is not eating. I really hope this will pass.
Thanks a lot for your support. Sending good thoughts for Molly, I hope she will at least stay like this for long time.
