Absolutely sending good thoughts and MOJO, those numbers are scary- hope the Denamarin does the job.
Just got off the phone with our vet. This is the second time he's called when I had a toothbrush in my mouth and lots of foam. The last vet always timed her calls to when I just got out of the shower. How do they know??? NOTE: Dripping on the carpet is better than swallowing even the smallest amount of Sensodyne.
Anyway, my little man got a clean bill of health on everything except his liver enzyme ALT. That's the one that indicates that some cells are dying or have already died. Now, last year an elevation was mentioned....but not a history of this....and I presumed it was the alcohol in PetzLife gel that I was using for tooth health. I promptly stopped and started brushing.
Come to find out, his values have gone up four years in a row now. The range is 12 - 118 and, starting in 2014 with a level of 45, he went to 80, then 152, and now 269. Oof!!!
We're taking the Denamarin approach and rechecking in 3 months. If the level is unfazed by the Denamarin or continues to increase, an ultrasound is in Dan's future. [We had x-rays done as a baseline and they showed nothing out of the ordinary.]
Dan hasn't been vomiting and that's a common sign of liver difficulties so I'm hoping this is something that the Denamarin can address.
Good thoughts for my sweet baby would be appreciated.

Just when you think you're being cautious and getting some "baseline" values, something comes up not quite right. Hmmph! I hope it doesn't take much to get things back in order.

Sure hope the denamarin does the trick. What does Dan eat? Can food affect liver values? Probably not, but you never know. Good thoughts for Dan

Dan eats exactly what Sunnie eats...she has no issues. Their food most recently is NutriSource Prairie.
What I'm thinking is the fipronil I've always used for fleas/ticks...although no dog of mine has had any issues. That's the only thing I can come up with right now...and really the only thing that's been consistent since 2014.
I'm going to see if the Denamarin helps and go from there. I'd hate to have to use another method of flea/tick control. We have ticks galore and it was my tick-magnet first Lab who caused me to switch from yeast or garlic (for just fleas) to a topical. Neither of these dogs will touch garlic and I hesitate to rely on just yeast. And then there are the ticks.... I hate tick collars...hate having "stuff" that close to a dog's nose...and don't like applying stuff to the entire coat. Gaaahhhhhhh........
Do not have experience with Denamarin but wanted to chime in. Potion had a liver reaction to Rimadyl and vet had her on Hepagen C (milk thistle) and wild salmon oil. They don't cure anything but do support liver function. If those do not conflict with the Denamarin, might be worth adding in. It did take 3 months for Potion's liver values to come back to normal. She was checked every 2 weeks and for a while no change then all of a sudden the value dropped like a stone back to normal range.
Sending good thoughts.

Thanks, Fran....the Denamarin is headed in the right direction re: milk thistle and the pups already get wild salmon oil (human stuff that I use). That's encouraging to hear that this mix helped with Potion...hoping Dan will follow in her pawsteps.
Sunnie had a one-time flirtation with elevated level(s)...haven't gone to her papers to revisit which...and Denamarin brought that right down. Maybe these guys have a tendency to have sensitive livers or some such. We never did figure out what could have caused Sunnie's elevation.
Our 13 yr old Molly's ALT level has been slowly on the rise for the past 3 years, so she has been on Denamarin for awhile now. Her arthritis was getting so bad, but because of her elevated ALT level, vet wouldn't start her on Rimadyl, but put her on Galliprant instead, which is very new......so far, it is helping Molly a lot. I hope Danny will be o.k!

Over the years, Cookie's bloodwork would show slightly elevated AST or ALT levels. I put him on milk thistle and it would resolve. The liver has great capacity to regenerate itself, I hope in the next bloodwork everything will get back to normal for Danny. How old is he?
