I'm glad to hear it's "between the ears". We have a lot of that, too...it keeps us guessing. Hope things will even out for Duke quickly as he grows accustomed to the new normal.

That's a great approach. Incrementalism is our new religion around here.

No, no not at all. If you follow any of my posts, you'd know I've spent months trying to break things down for my dog. My goal is to run her in Hunt Tests and she thinks she's self-employed when it comes to retrieving. So it's a tedious step by step process. Little bits at a time.
But I can see where the post sounded flip. I'd suggest you search my posts but trust me, they're very tedious and boring.

Well, I'm at a loss. Maybe I'm not being patient enough. Duke is chasing squirrels, going on walks (as a family), sitting closer during tv time, and playing mini-fetch in our back room. I thought last night would be a great night to go out for some exercise before the remnants of Harvey came this way. Nothing. Nothing at all. Chief went after the wheel and even tried to get Duke to play with him. Only game Duke was playing was hold the doormat down.
I have noticed something else that might help me solve this mystery. Chief has really latched onto me more lately. He either seems less concerned with the baby and more concerned about being a dog, or Duke's hyper-focus on Annie makes it seem that way.
I guess I'll just keep taking baby steps and being patient.

I've got my Duke back!!! As of 00:21 this morning, Duke is running and fetching again. It took forty minutes of goading him on; small tosses to him on the porch, playing with Chief in front of him, handing him the ball and walking away and getting him to bring it to me...And then, BAM! He's hauling ass across the yard chasing after Chief, passing him, and getting to the ball first. I was so happy; we played until 1:30. This morning (I put them out for a while so I can feed our Annie) they were both so playful that I decided to be late for work to spend time with them. I am so happy to see the boys back at it. I can tell Chief is happy to have his brother back, too.
I am not going to expect the same behavior tonight when I get home, but I'm happy to know the old Duke is somewhere in there.

Ta DAH! Way to watch your dog and go at his pace. Excellent.

I'm so happy! I hope the old Duke is still hanging around tonight!
