    Cannot move/get up

My lab, Shea, is almost 10. He has always been in great health. He has had some back hip soreness lately, that got really extreme the last 2 days. He cannot get up. He won't eat. It is currently 3:30 in the morning and he just peed and pooped while laying down in the living room because he cannot move. It also seems as though he has lost some control of other muscles as when he lifts his head up, he tries to ease it back down, but it slams down onto the ground. Any idea of what I can do to help him?? I will be on the phone with the vet first thing tomorrow morning, but I cannot move him myself and my husband is away. Please, any advice will be appreciated!

Keep him comfortable until you can call the vet and take him in. Poor boy.

Sounds spinal. Yes, keep him as comfortable as you can. If your vet won't make a house call, try to round up a strong neighbor or ask the vet for the help of a tech to get your boy into the office. The house call would obviously be best, for starters.

    Good thoughts headed your way.

Maybe a towel sling under the belly can help you move the dog.

I hope you can let us know the outcome. I can sense your fear about his situation and I hope for the best for you and Shea.

Sounds possible spinal to me too. You must get him to The Vet. Maybe you can roll, slide himon to a abig strong blanket or towel and have big strong neighbour man help you carry him to the care? Go with you if possible? You might want to put a soft muzzle on him. A strange person helping move him when he hurts could provoke a bite. He's probably scared too.

So sorry this is happening. Does sound spinal. Get him to the vet as soon as you can. All of the above suggestions for moving him are great. Our Bandit had a back episode and we attempted to get him to walk and he actually bit at the leash, this from a dog with the softest, kindest heart ever. Do use a soft muzzle or a soft tie. The apply the tie start under the muzzle, up around and over the top, cross ends and back under the muzzle. Cross the tie again and then around his neck. Extreme pain can make even the sweetest dog react. Please keep us updated.

    I'm so sorry...

It sounds neurological to me....perhaps your dog had a seizure?

    Sending good thoughts for him.

I hope you got good help by now. Also check him everywhere for any ticks. Some cause paralysis.
