    Pain

Today we had a terrible day. I woke up to see Cilek lying down on her pee. She is not doing well in the last 3 days and today was the worst.
I washed her legs and put her on clean mats. I've tried to give her some food but she refused to eat anything. Then I had a terrible headache and could not move until 2pm. I knew that I had to do something for Cilek but my body shut down. Same thing happened 9 years ago when I was confused about Tilya. I didn't know what to do and I slept for hours and hours.

Cilek was feeling bad either because of pain or because of Rimadyl's gastrointestinal side effects. She was and still is lethargic, had nausea, shaking and cannot stand up, cannot stand still even when I hold her. I wanted to increase her Rimadyl dosage but at the same time I was afraid of side effects. What if she was having a serious stomach issue? I talked to vet and she was pretty sure this was because of the pain.
Question here: Can pain cause this much trouble? Including vomiting.

I was giving her 50 mg Rimadyl daily but in the last week I felt like it was not enough. I talked to the vet to increase her dosage but he suggested me to use as little as I can. So I stayed at 50 mgs. Today I talked to another vet and she hardly let me give her 75 mgs. She is the one who said she is not feeling well because of the pain.

After a lot of thinking I've decided that she is in a lot of pain and stomach was not important at that point. I gave her 100 mgs Rimadyl in the evening. It's 1:30 am right now and she is not shaking, she ate some canned food (a/d) on her own and not vomitted. Even if she is still just lying down, I'm sure she is feeling better.
Tomorrow morning I'll give her 50 mgs and in the evening 100 mgs.
I will listen to my dog and my heart, not the vet this time.

In the meantime, I will try to get some Galliprant.

It's awful when they are in pain and you are not sure what to do, but you want to do something quickly to make them feel better. Your headache was probably from the stress and concern about Cilek. I don't have any good advice, but you and Cilek definitely have my love and my prayers. I'm hoping she feels better soon.

Pain can definitely cause vomitting in humans. I guess it can in animals. I'm sorry, this is such a hard time.

When Jet got to the point her pain was escalating I called her breeder, a public health nurse. She suggested something a lot stronger but told me it, "would toast her kidneys." Meaning they would be damaged and shut down sooner. I went with it and even my Vet was not happy, saying basically the same thing. It may have shortened Jet's life, I don't know, she didn't show signs of kidney damage. But she did hurt her back again. I may have shortened her life a bit but to my mind, what was a life in that kind of pain?

Sending good thoughts for both of you.

Do you have Tramadol there? You can give Tramadol and Rimadyl together to calm Cilek's pain. We had Hershey on that combination.

Glad to hear she ate some. Signs of GI issues can include nausea, vomiting (if you see dark red vomit stop Rimadyl immediately), and dark black stool.

I'm so sorry. We discovered that Fran's pain was the result of spleenic cancer. If you want to pursue it, you'll probably need an ultrasound.

Thank you! 4 weeks ago she had similar symptoms. I took her to the vet for blood tests and ultrasound. All tests came back normal. I insisted for an ultrasound but vet said there would be other indications and she had none. In any case ultrasound will not hurt. I'll definitely go for it again.

Hi Elena. Yes, that's why I was confused a lot. Symptoms were also close to Rimadyl side effects. She had no dark red vomit, no black stool so at least I knew that her stomach is not bleeding. Then I took the risk and increased her Rimadyl dosage. Thank God, her vomiting stopped. She started to eat on her own.

Hi Barb, I didn't know that. We have Tramadol. Cilek is doing better right now with increased dosage but I'll keep Tramadol in mind.
