I asked the park manager this morning if they'd changed the herbicide they use recently or perhaps the person doing the spraying isn't always putting out those little yellow signs. He said they're still using RoundUp and that they'd have to consume a lot of concentrated product to show bad effects. I know that's not true. So....
I'm also wondering about a Leptospirosis outbreak as a possibility. Nothing like eating grass that's been urinated on by an infected fox/raccoon/whatever.
We don't inoculate for Lepto anymore....one of our guys...I think it was Sunnie...had a bad reaction the last time and, anyway, there are different strains out there. The vaccine might not even be adequate.
I emailed my vet to see if he's noticed a trend with something like this or find out if he has any thoughts.
This makes me really nervous. Our guys aren't allowed to eat grass except on our own property but 1) we have foxes/raccoons/groundhogs/etc. on our own property and 2) Bob is unable to adequately focus on what the dogs are doing when he has them out on our street for short potty walks. At least we always wipe feet when they've been off our property....and I won't be taking them to that park for a while "just in case".
Supposedly, all the vets who've seen these dogs have been stymied. I don't know if any of them tested for Lepto.
Not happy.
