Oh, my....hope the vet has something not too distressing to say.
On the bright side, your champion sure does deal with adversity really well.
Well, you all know that Cookie was hit by a car 2 years ago and had to have surgery for his dislocated right hip. We did physical therapy and that leg is now doing okay.
A few months ago he showed pain in his left elbow. Did physical therapy for that too, and it was okay.
I hoped we could take a break for a while, but yesterday he showed discomfort on his left hip.
We are going for x-rays in the afternoon. I hope it's not a complete catastrophe.
One leg left to go! Sigh.

:-( Hopefully it’s something minor that PT can help with. I wouldn’t be surprised if the original hip injury and recovery is throwing his biomechanics out of whack so that things flare up and get sore now and then.
Chloe has recovered well from her tendon injury, but is still every so slightly imbalanced in how she uses her rear (and is slightly more muscled on the good side) and it has caused a problem in her back which has thankfully resolved with PT, but her rehab vet warned me it is the kind of thing that can flare up again from time to time. Kind of like how my having arthritis in my right toe is affecting my left knee!

I'm told Oban's left elbow injury was made worse by the fact he was doing "compensatory gaiting" to favour the bone spur on his right leg. It must have been pretty darn slight, I never saw any sign. Now I'm told to watch for funny movement in his hips. It is good they are not centipedes. With us, I think, the same thing can happen but when we run out of legs it goes to somewhere in the back. Hoping Cookie, and Chili too, will benefit from rest and need nothing more.

Thank you all.
Yes, his injury definitely affected all his other joints. Unfortunately, the degenerative processes in his elbows, hips and spine had begun long before the injury.
X-rays done, severe hip displasia in the remaining hip joint, a bit worse than when last x-rayed 2 years ago, but that was expected. We are starting PT on Monday. Hopefully it will help. I know he is an old dog now, but I want him moving for as long as possible, and pain-free for as much as possible.

Your post made me wince just at the thought of it. If Ram had more than two bony elbows, there's no way I would let him lay on the couch between my legs like he does now.
I hope it's nothing serious with Cookie.

Poor guy! Getting old sucks!
I feel sorry for Cookie and you, it's no fun going thru the recovery process when other things go wrong. Like Barry581 says, getting old sucks-for everyone.
Berna (09-08-2017)
Poor guy...he sure does bounce back though ya gotta admit. Maybe some more PT and he will be feeling better. I wish we could do something for the hip dysplasia that so many get....hang in there

you can do this Cookie! and i hear you, a lot of work can go into keeping them mobile!
