    Tiny flies surrounding puppy outside?

Whenever we take our puppy outside, if he ends up sitting still for a little while or lies down in the grass, he gets swarmed by tiny flies. He likes to be outside with us when my kids are playing, but I hate that these flies end up all over him? Is there something wrong that is attracting them? Our older lab, that passed away a few months ago, was outside all of the time and I never remember him being bothered by these tiny flies, unless I'm just forgetting. Any suggestions? Is this a normal problem?

Mardi, who is 11, was out laying in the shade with us the other evening. Tiny gnats were all over her. Is that what your talking about?

You can spray skin so soft on your hands and wipe it on the dogs coat to keep bugs away. It is safe.

I mixed Skin So Soft with a little Citronella Oil and water. I spray it on my hand and wipe on her head and her rear end. Works.

This always happens with Tux, the gnats swarm him. But they leave my other dogs alone. I don't get it

I think that, like with different people, a dog's particular skin/hair odor is either attractive, or not, to insects. Two of my Labs used to be driven bonkers if I didn't put something on them. The rest of the dogs have never particularly been bothered.

I attract flying things. My husband doesn't. I smell better, yah?

And it cracks me up b/c Tux is the only one who I give Bug Off Garlic too, LOL. I give it to him for reasons other than repelling bugs, but I guess the gnats don't mind it.

    They must be Italian gnats!
