    Question Bald Tail.

    Hello everyone...

Max has a balding tail. The strange thing is there are other signs of any problem. No irritated or dry skin... he does not scratch or lick is tail, ever... the rest of his fur looks great. He eats grain-free, high-quality pet food (Annamaet)... that we actually switched to because of this problem about 6 months ago. He shows no other signs of heath problems. This has been going on at least 7 or 8 months, but it is slowly getting worse. Any idea's??

Is it his whole tail? In the photo it looks like it's at the supracaudal gland so he may have this:

It's often called Stud Tail. It's a gland, has nothing to do with food. In our house, all the boys had it until they were fixed, and now that we only have one intact boy left, his has cleared up too. It's often related to testosterone production.

@JenC did your dogs' tails clear up and grow hair back? The GR next door never did. His coat hides it and he is intact. His tail is not oozy, smelly and infected anymore though.

Yes, that looks to be exactly what it is. Thank you for the quick responses, I will be taking Max to see the vet this week.
