Samson TTA Leg - Slipped on Hardwood.

So here we are. When I rented this house for vacation last year, the main living area was all carpet. Two months before our trip, the owner decided to put hardwood in. I requested the owner let me out of my lease but of course he said no. I couldn't walk away from a 2k rental. I purchased several runners and area rugs and put them down. All has been well until this morning. He was in the kitchen and walked through the dining room. He slipped as he turned the corner. Now he is limping on his TTA leg. Literally makes me sick. Immediate headache. I have a call to my vet just to see if there is anything special I need to do since it's his TTA leg. Meniscus? Anyone have any experience? Poor baby. He first tore his left leg while here on vacation in June of last year. Here we are again. I was so worried about his right leg. :-(

if his meniscus was left in then yes it could be that. I don't think those fixes "break" so it may just be sore and not related to the knee as well. I don't think it's unsual for some limping to happen in the future but generally not related to a break in the surgery (or need to re-do it). Other than meniscus. My friend has TPLO on her dog's knees and they did end up going back in to have the meniscus removed (and then back again to remove the plate, it was like 4-5 surgeries total on both knees).

hopefully he is just sore from the fall and it's nothing that needs "fixing". Crappy way to spend a vacation though (worrying about your pup)

He didn't even go down, just a slip. He was turning left and I think his left leg slipped inside slightly. The tta hardware is permanent. I was doing some round of motion exercises and he didn't pull back. And yes, the rest of vacation I will be worrying about him. Poor baby.

Not sure if it is the same but TPLO hardware is meant to be permanent but if infection occurs they have to remove it. Once bone is healed the plate is superfluous anyway (just generally not worth the effort and expense to remove). We were looking to manage Penny until her bone has fused to remove it around 12-16 weeks given the infection issues. BUT it may be different with TTA. either way that isn't the issue here. He may just have tweaked his leg and be good as new after some rest.

    Thanks all.

And yep Tonya, that is my hope. Ironically I had just signed him up for swim class beginning Saturday after Thanksgiving. 30 minutes lessons in a big pool to help strengthen and keep the back end strong in hopes to prevent the right leg from going.

I talked to my ortho vet yesterday and he believes Samson will be OK after I explained the slip. He said give a few days and if he is holding it up or limping he will fit me in.

This morning Samson seems to be better. He is sitting square. Yesterday he wasn't. Mildly visible limp. He will rest again today and then tomorrow we have our 13 hour car right home so he will get nothing but rest! :-) He has his memory foam bed of course so he will be plenty comfy. My spirits are lifted this morning.

I'm glad to hear things are looking better! That's a long drive, I hope Samson doesn't jump out of the car after a drive like that and start butt tucking to get his wiggles out!

OH boy, he has that look this morning. The family are out in the main living area watching TV and Samson is just itching to get out there and greet all of them with that butt rotating in circles and walking sideways. I hate that he can't.

So sorry this has happened. Hopefully a period of rest will help.
