Question Not Eating / Bloated Tummy

    Hi everyone,

Thanks for being so helpful in the past. Today I'm having a bit of a scare with Milo. My roommate went to feed him dinner and found he wouldn't eat. This has NEVER happened to him before, so when she texted me I came home from work. What we think may have happened was the food closet got left open and he may have eaten a good amount out of his bag of food (of course, this is just a guess). He's acting fairly normally but has had some diarrhea today.

I'm reading symptoms of canine bloat online and it's scaring me. His stomach does feel pretty bloated, but he's been drinking a lot of water (which is usual) and his gums are still pink so my inclination is to wait and see if he eats/how he's feeling in the morning, but I wanted to know if anyone has had experience with labs eating too much, symptoms, or advice. Thanks!

    Hi.
Please don’t let him drink too much. This is food bloat or over eating. That is not as bad as the GDV form of bloat. Keep him quiet. Consider giving him some Simethicone, a gas control product as long as what you get does not have xylitol in it. Keeping an eye on him is a good idea. Let is know how he does.

I'd be at the vet. You admit that the "too much food" is a guess. I'd want someone checking him out.

Please let us know how he's doing.

I sure hope Milo feels better. How is he this morning? What do you keep your food in? I keep my in the airtight 4 or 6 gallon containers from Target. They sell them at pet stores too but at a higher price. Not sure if you keep the food in a bag or not. Before I leave for work, one of my checks each day is to be sure I have the food bins latched. Hope he is better. If not a vet visit will be your best choice for Milo.

I think I'd Vet too. I've read they can have watery diarrhoea with a blockage. Don't know about GDV. I know you said he may have eaten a lot of food but weird co-incidences do seem to happen with dogs.

Since you weren’t certain that he did overeat, I would agree with a vet visit. If you knew for certain that’s what he did, friends who’ve frequently experienced it tell me they just fast them for a couple days until it has all moved through the system so to speak.
