    Excessive shedding

I have a 10 month old yellow male Lab. For the past two months he’s been shedding like crazy. I use the seabed ding brush on him everyday and it’s still out of control. Please help.

I don't know if there is help to be found. I don't know how my yellow can shed so much and still have hair. I can use the Ferminator on him for thirty minutes and still come away with big blond caterpillars. Our Roomba makes it about four feet before its bin is full

    seabed ding brush
Huh? I googled that and now I think it's a massive auto correct from your phone? LOL. I use a rubber curry comb and a rake. Still, Oban shed for about three months, spring into summer. Now he's starting again. A bath, if he's dirty anyway, helps to get out what the brushes don't but it just builds up all over again. Interesting to see my laundry tub completely stopped up with black hair.

Labs shed quite a bit. Our Daisy also sheds excessively and I wonder how she has any hair left, in her case I think her Cushing's Disease is partially to blame. We use our robot vacuum daily and it has significantly reduced the number of hair balls accumulating on the floor.

Our boy shed like PigPen from the Peanuts cartoons, there was always hair coming off him but sometimes it was worse than others, when he did his twice a year blow. Our girl doesn't shed as much as Chase did but after he died, I was surprised to see how much Lark was really contributing. When she was under a year old and I'd brush them, it seemed like I hardly got any loose hair off her, now it's a different story but still not as much as Chase. Maybe your pup has gotten old enough to get serious about his twice a year shed. Here's one breeder's advice on grooming your lab. Of the combs and brushes she uses, I also use the Zoom Groom, a shedding rake, and a slicker brush.

My two yellows have shed so much more than my chocolates...my boy was a walking snowstorm (very pale yellow).

These two shed a lot and Sunnie (closer to the Lab part of the equation than her son Danny) sheds more than Dan.

I brush them every morning and that helps a lot. I use a tipped wide pin slicker (good for ears, legs, and back combing certain other areas that are over-furred), then a rake, and then a soft slicker.

    LABS SHED!

I even think yellows may shed more because their fur is more "downy". Be careful when brushing, not to remove their undercoat, because they need it.

But please understand "shedding" is part of owning a Labrador.

Sometimes I say.."we are not house proud". We tend to overlook the shedding, because Labs are such a joy to own!

To the original poster, Have you owned a lab before? Just wondering if this is new to you because you've never owned a lab before or if you have owned one and this is crazy shedding. I wouldn't want to overlook other issues, but it's true that labs shed like crazy. Plus, not all labs shed as much as others. When you say shedding brush, what exactly are you using?

If it doesn't have dog hair on it, it's probably not mine...

Magical fibers of love and joy. Buy a good vacuum and live with it.
