Long haul is right...but I take it she's moving in the right direction, yes?
Had Elle for her first post op appointment today. She is progressing well but it is going to be a long haul. They changed the bandage on the split and I bought her a better boot to go over it for when she is out to air. I also bought a Help 'em Harness for supporting her on outing. It will expand to fit my sister's older dog as he has hock issues and has trouble getting into the crate. It will give him support going up the ram.
I reread the thread on house training. Elle is still a night hawk last night we were out a10:00, 12:30 and about 3:30. When she started fussing at 6:30 I knew she really did not need to go out but got up and dressed and she headed right down the hall to the bedroom. She wanted to be where the other dogs were so I put her on the bed with my husband and went and got 3 whole hours of uninterrupted sleep.
She had to have a plastic cone to replace the soft one she had started to chew. I don`t know who hates this one more, her or me.
Her next appointment is on Thursday. We will be at the clinic once a week until the first of Feb.

She's moving in the right direction I just have to slow her down. It is only a week and she is become more active. I don't want her to hurt herself. She demonstrated her bounce to the vet on our way out to the truck. Keeping her on a level keel will be a challenge. She is limited to a max of 10 minutes out of the crate. I usually have her in by 5 but finding that perfect spot to have her poop takes a little more time. She will pee on the deck but not the other. My husband carries her down the 4 steps and out through the garage so she has a little more space in the ploughed yard.
Today he is setting up the X-pen in the dining room so that she can look out the sliding doors. It was her puppy area and convenient for getting her in and out during the day. She will only get a short time in it at first.
I hope all goes well with her recovery.
I'm happy to hear things are going well so far. I hate plastic cones, as well. They're awkward for the pup and hurt when they come up behind you and hit the backs of your legs. So, one week, down and try not to think how many more to go!
Glad to hear she is doing relatively well, all things considered. Instead of a cone, I would look into a Bite-Not collar 400 Bad Request . Edited to add - not sure why it says Bad Request - the link works.
I borrowed one from a friend when Chloe was recovering from her tendon injury, but I believe Amazon has them as well. Much more comfortable for the dog than a cone, and still keeps them from being able to reach most incisions, especially on the rear of the dog.
